    Replacing Bow Thruster Brushes

Bow thruster needs new carbon brushes. It is a Vetus 12 volt and actually finding someone that lists these online is proving difficult. I'll call Vetus in Merritt Island tomorrow, I'm sure I can order a set. The thing is, according to posts in some other forums (as well as my own experience)...

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

Pleasure Island just spent Sunday at St. John's Harbor in Charleston, SC, after running 8 1/2 days straight, averaging about 72 SM per day. We had fuel filter problems the first 3 days; trouble shooting and delays cost us a day overall. Engine been running fine since Monday. Weather has been...

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

We are on our way. Left Solomons on Friday and are now in Oriental, NC. Had some issues with fuel filters and batteries, but we have ironed those out. Have lost 1 day due to maintenance issues, but moving good. Nice smooth sections, but Ablemare Sound was a rocking and rolling ride, but...

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

We do have the current Skipper Bob's Anchorage Guide and we have been using it in addition to the Waterway Guide. Very different publications, both very handy and they complement each other. I do find Bob's easier to use and it will most likely be our primary planning aid.

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

Sounds like every trip is it's own trip and ours will be, too. Lots of good advice and every bit of it will be considered. Will be happy to post our progress.

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

We had already decided to not run outside, for all the reasons you stated, Ted. I really would like to get to where Larry is with his confidence, though, I want to use the boat offshore some in good weather. Once in Florida I will pick some good weather days and head offshore out of St...

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

Wow, great information guys. We plan on anchoring out most of the time, fueling up twice when tanks should be around 1/2 full. I would be very interested in seeing your plan that puts you past Palm Coast on day 14. Planning 7 knots sounds like a smart idea and I am starting to look at...

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

We plan to leave on March 20th. Sunrise will be around 0700; sunset 1930 for the trip, so we figure 10 to 11 hours per day travel time. 13 days for your trip from Ft. Meyers to Norfolk is encouraging, we are planning averaging 70 sm per day, and I am aware that the rule of thumb is to plan for...

Solomons to Florida - Newbie on ICW

It would be easy to get all my questions answered and get all kinds of tips and guidance and never post on the forum, but somehow that seems rude, like eavesdropping on private conversations. So I'm jumping right in and letting everyone know I'm reading and I really appreciate all your posts...

    Finger holes have been conquered!

Oh, great, Garry. You've just added a new project to my project list. But, I think this one is pretty far from the bottom. Seriously, great idea.

whats the diference between a motor yatch and a trawler

When I describe my Marine Trader to my boating challenged land-locked relatives I tell 'em it's a floating Winnabago. They understand that. They have no concept of displacement hulls, coastal cruisers, passagemakers, or trawlers. They can understand diesel power, generator, galley, head, and...

    Your annual $ numbers

I've never smoked, rarely drink, and never divorced. How in the world do I justify spending the money for the boat?
  14. LarryBud49

    Smokin' is bad for you...

Why is he/she a parasite? Are the dues paid? Assuming they are, then are there any rules being broken? Does the private marina require participation, or have expectations of a minimun number of voluteer hours? If not, then aside from keeping your own slip area presentable and not doing...

    Ebay

Tried to sell my sailboat on EBay and had no luck, lots of calls but no bids. My minimum price was $12,000. I did sell a motorcycle for $16,000 on EBay with no problems, just followed their recommendations. Check other ads to see their wording and payment requirements, etc. I know lots of...

    Lehman 135 Cruise RPM

What RPM do you use for cruising and what fuel comsuption to you get? I'm fairly new to the forum and trawlers. We have had our 1988 Marine Trader DC for just a month. It has a Ford Lehman 135 engine. I've not seen many posts regarding this combination, but like I said I've only been here a...

    Steering Pump

Ok, went down to the boat this morning and talked to the maintenance manager. It was all a mis-understanding between the parts department and the manager. Parts does have the right replacement pump. I know that because researched it last night. And they have the right adapter kit for...

    Steering Pump

Teleflex Marine has seal kits and looks like they took over. I have a call into them but they haven't called back yet. Looking at their products I haven't found an exact replacement, but they have behind the dash pumps that don't stick out any further. Will have to see why the local mechanic...

The manufacturer, as far as I have been able to determine, is no longer in business.

    Steering Pump

Don't know yet, I am meeting the mechanic in the morning to consider my options. I wanted to get some input so I would feel better prepared to discuss things.

    Steering Pump

We sprung a leak in our hydralic steering pump, lower helm, on our 1988 Marine Trader DC. For the trip home we capped the lines and steered from the bridge helm. It is an Hynautic steering pump, 251/501 system. The system has a separate reservoir. According to the marina mechanic the pump is...

    Just a thought

As an owner of an older sailboat, Good Old Boat is a great magazine. It is full of articles for the do it yourselfer about fiberglass repair, creative and inexpensive ways of solving problems. Many of the articles will apply to my "new to me trawler", too, I will have to review the old...

Seems pretty straight forward, the spring clips in the gates was something I hadn't considered and I'll look at that. Thanks for the advice.

    Safety Netting

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, and we have a new to us 1988 Marine Trader 34. We love the boat and now our small grandkids and our dogs can join us on board. That wasn't so comfortable on our Ericson 35 sailboat. I've already learned a lot and look forward to meeting everyone, online...
