    HELP! Vosper Stabilizer Fin Removal

We had Vosper stabilizers on our previous Defever. When it came time to remove the fins to service the seal, the boat yard gave up after a short while fearing they would cause some permanent damage, so I called a boat yard in Seattle who worked on Niad stabilizers. They sent out a young man...

    Ford Lehman Secondary Fuel Filters

I use 2 micron in my primary Racor and I believe the secondaries are 30 micron, so the secondaries are not doing much. I will keep them changed about every 3 years.

    Primer for running gear

I used it two years ago, had a diver clean the bottom and running gear this past March. Pulled the boat last month and there were very few barnacles on the shafts and props. Did not use any undercoating, just wiped down with acetone before spraying. I reapplied again this year.

    Buffing Gelcoat

If it's shine you really want, you need to apply a polish as the next step, than the wax over that to protect the polish. It's a three step process.

    Water Maker (Desalinator)

I'm not a guru but you will be using the generator to run the water maker. Both will be drawing from the same source at the same time.

For Those Who Have Had Their Teak Decks Removed

Well, we don't know enough from you have told us. How big is the boat? About how many square feet of teak? No one knows what they will find under the teak. It could take two guys a month to do the job at $100.00 per hour each, plus supplies. Is the boat worth new $30,000 dollar decks? This...

How should wires be attached to transom anode?

Angus99; I've got something similar going on. I have a copper strip running down the center of the boat to which all the green bonding wires attach to. But when it get's to the stern, there is wire that attaches from that strip to a stainless plate near the transom that the auto pilot...

    Water Pump or something else?

If you do have a accumulator the pressure in it needs to be correct or the water temperature can fluctuate. Check your owners manual.

How should wires be attached to transom anode?

There are two studs going thru the transom that the anode is attached to on the outside of the hull. I currently have one wire attached to one stud. Should there be a wire going to each stud? Maybe run a jumper to the other stud? Or is it correct the way it is? Thanks.

How will you deal with something like this?

Thank God we don't have much in the way of severe weather here in the PNW, occasionally a big wind storm, but nothing like those folks on the east coast. But we do have earth quakes, and they say there is a big one coming. Saw is on the local news this week. Not going to put the boat up for...

    Water Maker (Desalinator)

Kevin:Thanks for that great post. BUT... I then think about those boats in the marina that have liveaboards, or maybe just folks that spend a lot of time at the dock, and try to recall if I have ever seen a pump out boat service them or seen them untie and run out to the pump out station...

    ASD 2019 Alaska Cruise

I only went thru the locks once. Our previous boat was in Lake Washington when we took possession. It was July 4th and I knew I did not want to be caught up in that mess, especially since I had only operated the boat for a few minutes during the seal trial. So we were up at daybreak and moved...

    Water Maker (Desalinator)

Keep in mind that once you start using your watermaker, you need to use it at least every 7-10 days, or else run some chemicals thru it to preserve the membranes. It takes time to do this. Then before you use it again you will need to flush out the chemicals. The key word in your post is...

    Diesel courses worth it? PNW

You could try calling the local Cat distributor for your area and ask if any of their techs have been around long enough to have spent time working on these engines. Maybe he would be willing to come aboard and spend a few hours with you. Woops... just saw you are from the PNW. That dealer...

    Diesel courses worth it? PNW

That is going to be a tough one to find a class on since those engines probably haven't been built in over 30 years. I would try to find a good factory repair manual for it ( I found one for a 3304 on eBay for my previous boat). It probably seems pretty overwhelming when you first look at...
