    Surveyor recommendations - LaConner, Washington

Berg is good and I used Craig Smith from Compass Marine for the engines. Only problem is waiting maybe a month. Especially if your not using a broker.

    Lehman injector pump rebuild

If you are do it yourself kind of guy, remove the pump and drive it to Northland Diesel in Bellingham. They work on these all the time. I had one of mine done right after buying the boat and they had it done in one day. Great service. If you need help with doing it, call Steve Smith at...

    Favorite PNW Inside Passage Guide

First you need the Waggoner Cruising Guide. They publish a new edition every year with the latest information. The reason this is important is that the marinas along the way may go out of business. So you cruise hours to get to a location because they have a service you need ( garbage drop...

You could hide a GPS tracking device on the boat.

    Run AC Watermaker off Inverter?

I hope you find a solution as I too would like to not run the generator while under way just to make water. But I will need to rewire the water maker as it is now being supplied by a circuit breaker that is not powered by the inverter, just shore power or the generator.

    Run AC Watermaker off Inverter?

While reading my owners manual and related part manufactures literature, I read that the water maker should not be started under high pressure as the shock load to the membranes can damage them. The manual says: "During start-up, a gradual change from a standstill to operating state is...

What is the most stupid thing you have ever done on your boat?

Just one more.... We had just arrived at Nanaimo BC after several hours of running into head winds that created about 2-3 wind waves and made it hard to see dangers in the water. I stopped outside the marina to pull in the fishing boat I was towing and tie it along side the big boat. I...

What is the most stupid thing you have ever done on your boat?

One day had to transfer some fuel to balance out the boat. So I positioned all the valves to the proper positions and turned on the transfer pump. Except the ones that allowed fuel to flow to and from the pump. If the generator had not been running I could have heard the pump was not...

    LLC question...

Our boat was owned by a LLC when we bought it. After consulting with a maritime attorney, we bought just the boat and told them to keep their LLC.

    Curved Pilothouse Windshield Windows

As a last resort have you considered trying to polish them back to original? I have had very good results doing this to automobile plastic headlight covers and I believe it is commonly done to aircraft windshields.

    Black on the bimini canvass

Mix 3/4 bleach, 1/4 cup mild detergent (Deft), 1 gallon of water. I use a sponge that is covered with a nylon mesh ( like a bug sponge for cleaning a car windshield). Rinse well.

How do you send general delivery mail to Canada?

I want to have some mail sent to me while traveling in Canada. I want it sent to a location ahead of me so I don't have to wait days for it to arrive. All I can find on the internet is you need to go to the post office and fill out some paper work and all is good. But I have not arrived at...

Didn't think this was the way Nexus worked

Sunday we entered into Canada and while still 30 minutes out of Bedwell Harbor I called the Nexus number. Spent a few minutes answering a few questions, he gave me a clearance number, then told me to go into Bedwell Harbor and tie up. If no one show's up in 30 minutes, your free to go. We...

    Any guesses what this is?

That is for sure a electric fuel pump. Have one on my generator and the diesel heater. Have you taken a hose loose and smelled to see if it's diesel fuel in it? Maybe it is pumping some other fluid? Could have been installed to bleed the main engine after a filter change? Do you have a...

    Totally dissed by broker

We bought our last two boats from female brokers and I want to say they were both excellent experiences. Most brokers belong to a professional organization (don't recall the name right now) but you could get a referral from them for a good female broker.

    Bright Work Cost?

That might not sound like much to you but it is many, many hours of work. Better start saving now. Or else learn how to do it yourself. It's not rocket science.

    Badly oxidized gel coat

You will definitely want to use a buffer. 3M makes excellent products. Like Martin J says rubbing compound if it's really, really bad. Or if it's just bad then a compounding product will work. The difference is how much grit they have in them. This will be a three step process. Step two...

Some little change you make today may could come back to bite you years later

We have only had our current boat a couple years. When we did the survey a note was made that the belt for the hydraulic pump was out of alignment and should be corrected. The pump was attached to the engine bed stringer and is driven by a belt from the engine. I looked at it several times...
