    Hot off-gassing house batteries?

Routinely check SG is something I have been lax on. Will definetly incorporate into my program going forward.

    Hot off-gassing house batteries?

There is a temp sensor on the bank, connected to the negative on the aft most battery. I'm reading that maybe it is more appropriately place on the center battery.

For a novice, what exactly does that mean? Thanks, Ryan

Yep, turned charger off prior to leaving the boat.

    Hot off-gassing house batteries?

Being this is my first trawler and experience with larger battery banks, I’m looking for input on whether I’m doing something incorrectly that is reducing the life of the house bank, and will compromise batteries going forward, or whether this sounds like standard end of life for battery bank...

Replacement for rubber exterior window seal?

Rebedded a forward window yesterday, and upon completion inserting the rubber seal on the exterior of the aluminum frame, it’s old and not plyable (as you would expect on an older trawler). I’m sure this stuff has a proper name that I’m not aware of, but where is a good to find replacement...

Teak deck recaulk job; is this normal?

Dave, My research/prep pretty much has me going down the path you outline. Thank you! The tool you speak of (by Fein I think); has a ‘Starlock attachment’, can those be used on most multi tools: or is there an adapter that allows them to be used? I don’t think my multi tool has a universal...

Teak deck recaulk job; is this normal?

Getting prepared to recaulk my teak deck which seems overall pretty straight forward. However, where my teak butts up against the fiberglass on both inboard and outboard side of the deck, rather than a fat bead of deck caulk, there is a thin line of some other type of caulking material (photos...

Leaking fuel port fitting on deck; best method for resealing?

Hi All, I have small leak, leaking into the boat from the deck mounted fuel filler fitting. I have not had to reseal these prior but have a few that should probably be resealed. What is the best method(s) for resealing? I appreciate your help! -Ryan

    Bedding Screws using butyl tape?

I need to bed deck hardware using screws. Most of the videos I'm watching are using butyl tape to bed bolts with backing plates, and caution against spinning the bolt to tighten a butyl bedded bolt; rather recommending tightening the nut. Is it good practice to bed screws using butyl, or are...

Slip clutch - Volvo MS-3 Gearbox

I've got a Volvo Penta gearbox, MS-3 that has a failed clutch slip disk (I think part number is 852072). Spoke to Pacific Power Group (Volvo Dealer in the Seattle area). This part is obsolete in Volvo's system. The Volvo rep I spoke to was surprised how little info he could find, and thought the...

Removing transmission when boat is in water. Bad idea?

The shafter seals are PYI, Packless Seal System. I've just seen some conflicting information online. I've just seen a few posts where people refer to the potential to compromise seals. At this point in my boating adventure every problem is a new problem to me so just trying to figure S#%t out.....

Removing transmission when boat is in water. Bad idea?

Hi All, Having issues with the port transmission. In order to remove it from the engine it will require clearing some space by decoupling it and pushing the shaft aft several inches. I have a dripless fitting on the shaft. I've seen some conflicting viewpoints on this; should it be done with...

Boat pulling to starboard while underway.

….I probably would not know. I do feel like the steering is a little sloppy, which posters have detailed more than a few reasons that could cause this; I have not touched power steering oil in the year I’ve owned the boat, which will definitely change next time I step on the boat…

Boat pulling to starboard while underway.

I have not played with the linkages. Probably a dumb question ( but don’t know so I’ll ask), but when you ask are the shafts equally aligned, are we talking if’s shafts that come through hull and our visible from lazarette? What indicates alignment? I don’t believe I can see the rudders with...
