    Montana LLC

You go ahead and check with a accountant. I'll check with a attorney that specializes in maritime law.

    Montana LLC

When we bought our boat it was owned by a LLC, and it was the only asset of the LLC I believe. So we had to decide if we should buy the LLC and not pay any sale Tax or just buy the boat. After consulting with a maritime attorney, we just bought the boat. His advice was this: If the LLC was...

    Fuel cap questions

Does it seal with a o ring? If so it must be a straight thread. I cannot see it being a pipe thread. Is there a better, more complete marine store in your area?

Perkins gen. shuts down after 10 min.

Maybe not a fuel problem. Check your owners manual and see if there are any safety shutdown features on this unit. Perhaps it is overheating and a sensor is shutting it down.

    New LED light

I have installed three of these on our boat. Light weight, stick on with double sided tape. Three position switch: off, on, automatic. Can be aimed to specific areas...

    110v Electrical Throughout

If you need to call in a marine electrician to fix that generator, plan on about $125.00 per hour labor rate plus parts. If the generator needs to be replaced, about $7,000 to $10,000 for a 8kw generator plus labor to remove and install. As you can see, this is a major expense. Easy enough...

DeFever 49 RPH Fuel and water tanks

Now days they are repairing the tanks by thoroughly cleaning them out and then coating them with a special epoxy that can withstand fuel. If the boat does not have access holes already cut into them, they will cut them in. It will usually require more than one access. That Defever probably...

DeFever 49 RPH Fuel and water tanks

More and more people now days are choosing to have the tanks repaired as the process gets better and better. Most rust problems will most likely be caused by water leaking down the fuel fill in the deck. But on these boats that area of the fuel tanks can easily be seen on each of the four...

@#$&*!!! perko mortise lock set 0927!!!

I have found suitable springs at the local Ace that I cut shorter and worked fine. My problem now is that three of mine have worn out cams inside. Found replacement parts at Fisheries supply in Seattle.

Safety wire for prop shaft bolts

I installed safety wire on many thousands of fasteners when working on jet engines in the Air Force. I have had a pair of safety wire pliers in my tool box for the past 40+ years and have used them many times over the years, not for just safety wire.

    1989 oa 50

If it has those Cummings 555 engines, I would stay away. Difficult to find parts and very expensive.

    Slow draining sink - SOLVED!

Here is another solution. Just do a real rough crossing of Queen Charlotte Sound. The water that is forced backwards up the discharge hose will push all the gunk back up into the sink. Works like a champ and only took about 5 hours to complete!!

    Anyone used Seattle Mattress company?

In Marysville you have Slumber Ease Mattress Factory. I have had several made for both home and the boat. Usually pretty fast service.

Just when you thought you could trust them!!

Got a email from the owners yesterday. The boat had a little keel damage and one slightly bent prop blade. They were back in the water Friday and all is good. Here are some pictures.

    Cleaning heat exchanger tubes

Should not need to remove the heat exchanger to do this. Just need to figure out how to remove a hose going into one end and connect it to the hose from your solution and then remove a hose at the other end and let that drain back into the bucket so the solution is circulated. You may need to...

    Coast guard

Only one time in 50+ years have I been boarded by the coast guard. I was moving the boat to Friday Harbor and was by myself, my wife was taking the car on the ferry. I saw them coming so I stopped. They asked when the last time I had a safety inspection and I said never, so 3 came aboard...

    Cleaning heat exchanger tubes

Cleaning it with chemicals would be the preferred method. You can damage the tubes by running a rod down thru them. There are two products that are popular. One is Barnacle Buster and the other is Rydlyme. Barnacle Buster is easier to find. Here is a link to their web site...

Just when you thought you could trust them!!

This past Sunday afternoon a 42' trawler came into Jones Island State Park and tied up to the last buoy available. They had just finished the first day of a four month Alaska cruise and it had been a very long days run from Gig Harbor. When they awoke Monday morning something did not seem...

    Rolling chocks ve Stabilizers

Just saw a 42 Grand Banks yesterday with rolling chocks that were installed at the place in Nanimo BC. He was in and out in three days. He said it usually only took two days but the bottom paint he uses needed 12 hours to dry. He said the travel lift sling will not be a problem. He had the...

    Towing a runabout

Sam; I have towed a 19 foot aluminum boat from the San Juan's to Alaska and back. You just need enough time to be able to pick your weather, knowing you are towing a tender. Make a cover that snaps on for the open bow so if you do take water over the bow, most will go overboard. You also...
