    Another potential "liveaboard."

I have been lurking here for years, and kicking around the idea of buying a trawler to live on and enjoy. I now find myself in a position where I can actually buy the type of boat I want-a late 70's/early 80's diesel powered trawler in the 40' range-and follow through with my dream. My budget is...

Wish this had been around when we were looking

I agree, Rocky. While the mainstream media has been parroting "the economic recovery", there's been no such thing. The destruction of wealth continues, with house prices retreating, jobs disappearing, and fortunes dwindling. Boats are one of the first things to go when people need to start...

Help with purchasing older Grand Banks

The one for $139k? I don't think I'd spend that on a boat until I retire in twenty years or so, if then. I think that's way too much for that old of a boat, too. I'd want something a bit newer for that amount of cabbage. I'm actually not really seeing anything of interest right now, and I'm...

    Boat Search Previews

Both the buyer and seller pay for the broker. Without each person, the broker would never get paid. The broker makes the transaction more expensive, period. They're nothing more than the Realtors of the boat world. I'm hoping to locate a boat and purchase it without even using a broker. I...

Help with purchasing older Grand Banks

It's too bad I am about as far away from Florida as one can be, and still be in the continental US. The prices are much better there, as is the selection. I can't imagine shipping a boat for less than $10k. That doesn't even get into travel expenses, etc. It's just not realistic given my location.

Help with purchasing older Grand Banks

For your stated budget it is not too likely that you'll find a boat with these features.* Or if it does have them, they will be so beat up or deteriorated they'll most likely need replacement.* And given the staggering cost of proper Burmese teak these days, you don't want to be buying it if you...

Help with purchasing older Grand Banks

I think it's probably wise to go with a fiberglass boat. I do love the Grand Banks, but I'm sure something I'd be interested in is well out of my price range as far as their fiberglass models go. I want to keep it at $40k. I could go $50k, or even a little more, but I don't want to. I have a...

Help with purchasing older Grand Banks

Thank you for the replies, and sorry for the limited amount of information. I am in the Puget Sound region, so iced up harbors aren't a problem, though heat will be needed. The marina has a sewage pump, as well as other amenities. Why Grand Banks, and why a trawler? It's what I've always...

Help with purchasing older Grand Banks

As the title suggests, I'm thinking of purchasing an older Grand Banks (70's model). This will be a big purchase for me, and I happened upon this site and thought I may get some good feedback here. I have many questions, but my most pressing one is: how do I find the best boat for the best...
