    Spring 2021 transit to Alaska

I know big forward lights are a no-no on the inside, (I was firmly warned by Comox traffic) But I would run a couple bright floods offshore no problem. Stopping "just overnight" brings port rot. Get where ya wanna be, then goof off.

    Spring 2021 transit to Alaska

How much extra fuel you need? Heck with the bureaucrats, if you want see AK. Bring barrels of fuel you need on deck, don't stop, go 24/7 get it over with. Three people taking two 4 hour watches every 24 hours will have you in AK in good shape. The fuel dock will take your empties. 32' boats...

Any restrictions (distance offshore) if you loop up the outside side? If there was no inside passage, we'd all go that that way.

    AC/DC outdoor cooler

We've used this dual unit in our Sprinter for five years. This company makes a lot of units that go out as other brands. Dual zone, you can freeze both, cool both or any combo...

    Engine Room for Claustrophobic Captains

An roomy well lit engine room is very desirable. You'll never see it on a safety checklist, but I believe it's a huge factor in a well run boat. If it's convienient, you're more likely to do it. Checking oil every start up, site glasses you can glance at, able to see under the engine for liquid...

    Boat shapes? Nature knows

A boats motion, carrying ability, accommodations, fuel burn, on and on. All these things come into the design. Over many years, I've come to say "A boat is like a horse, hood ones and bad and they're all individuals, each responds differently to make them go or stop. A bad rider can kill a good...

58’ Bill Garden by Fellows and Stewart

I presented this boat in the general section. I did not know there was a wood boat thread. I will write more soon, it’s an amazing design and great condition. Happy thanksgiving!

    Interesting boats

Thanks for the kind words...she's got a real boarding ladder. Solid and secure as the rest of the boat. I'm really glad it aluminum, moving it around would be tough if it was too heavy. Falling over would not be fun to retrieve. It's high freeboard and lots of tumblehome. In this pic she's...

Sorry about that, see if this works. Lack of cavitation and such a minor wake tells me it's not waisting energy. I have driven a good number of displacement hulls, and I've never seen such a slick shape. https://youtu.be/aVzUokv8Ogw Short Video

How great to hear from you. I finally did Wrangall Narrows a couple years ago driving a 115' in the pic. I love Petersburg and look forward to hanging out there. I love the "talented but motley crew" comment, it's a whole other culture. I know I'll be back, they have it dialed in.

I am just learning how diverse 8' to 280'? And prolific William Garden was...It dawned on me seeing it out the water. Massive bow with house back, to carry a load, and have buoyancy to lift. Authority I guess is how it struck me. With the underwater shape so fat and pinched ash the stern, i...

Would be fun to start a "backing up" thread. I never steer backwards when backing up, its a waist of time and effort to try to steer any boat I ever drove backwards. Once I get moving back with the prop turning, I can see which way she wants to pull. It's not the same every time, depending on...

"Foiled" is stretching it a bit. I'm a work boat guy, so "plated" is better. This rudder (I drove this one for 28 years) is just a plate and frames, very inefficient. This kid used this image for online dating...girls...never date a fishermen.
