    Shackle to anchor connection video

Great point Rslifkin. When I first saw my boat, I was so attracted to the workboat soul. Made my transition much more familiar.

    Shackle to anchor connection video

OK, I'll bow out, it likely to never be an issue for this fleet. As I switch over from work to pleasure boats, I fall back on what kept us alive and productive in another sorta world. I'm learning it doesn't always transfer directly. Merry Christmas to all, here's to great coming new year.

    Shackle to anchor connection video

The shackle and hammerlock can't be compared by size. The shackle has to be downsized to fit the pin into a chain link. Easy to show, hard to post. (maybe I'll make video someday) A hammerlock that fits through the same link is many times stronger than the shackle that fits. In our service...

    Shackle to anchor connection video

Hammerlocks are 3 times the strength of shackles, and fit inside chain links where shackles can't go, they don't require stupid wire safety ties.. they never come loose. You need a punch and hammer to break it open, and it always breaks free. As a commercial trawler, we NEVER used shackles, too...

Beautiful Sea Horse Diesel Duck Jubilee - Michigan US$385,000

A quick look showed it holds more fresh water, less fuel (than my boat) and I can't get the HP...

    Econo Hot Tub

Top pic is not mine, it is fired with wood burning snorkel stove. We'll use our Hurricane Diesel fired hot water furnace to heat this. You can barely see it on top, in back. The life raft may have to go, we'll use the tub as a substitute...:-)

    Advise on anchor/tow line

When called to tow another vessel, we always used their anchor, with our line attached attached just above it the anchor stock. Let out as much chain as the towed boat had, then adjusted with line from our boat. Often I had them rig a bridle on the towed boat to prevent yawing. The weight of...

Interest in cruising the rest of Alaska?

Similar in the Aleutians, the blank bottom depths note on the chart “use caution uncharted waters” Sea of Cortez is off by two miles on longitude except for harbor approaches. Sextant and DR mapping from the 1800's in remote areas does not guarantee GPS acuracy. All part of the fun...:-)

Cordova is beautiful and has cleaned up a lot. They moved the cocaine off the bar tables into the bathrooms. Alaska, no place like it?

44' slip availability in or near Tacoma, WA?

I secured a spot at Fishermen's Terminal in Ballard/Seattle, starts the 1st. Just up from the Locks. No contract, no 1st and last, or 30 day notice B.S., pay by the month, go away for 3 months and return no charge (they are used to fish boats doing the same.) Very modern, no gates. I can't post...

Good forecast...they just started using Hurricane Force winds in the forecast. They use to say "Storm force Winds" anything above 65 knots. If you want calm, listen for Variable 5-15 kts. The 500MB (jet stream) is aimed right at PWS they are in the bowling alley!

If that fails, I'd consider deleting every post (you should be able to do that, it's your thread) The delete your original post. But that sounds very laborous over just clicking one button.

If it were me (and it's certainly not) I'd delete this thread, and re-post. And make it about the boat, not open to comment. "The more you kick a turd, the stinkier it gets."

    Double Enders

Thanks Art, is great to hear. We just spent our first 6 days aboard and are thrilled as we learn a lot of "old ways" In these images, you can see the iron bark for ice protection. The starboard side is etended to protect the anchor action. I would never considering a wood boat that was run...

I had a Tug boat Capt. tell me once "you guys are nuts, I'd never be a fisherman" I considered myself (a Bering Sea fisherman) a professional, so I ask, "why?" "You head out empty, you load your cargo at sea, in insane conditions, do you know your stability changes in a heart beat." It's rare...

32' Gillnet boats are shipped on top of barges bound for AK. every spring. Look close you can see a lot of big stuff on top. I've seen mining haul trucks up there!
