    Wanted: Village Marine Pressure Vessel

Thanks for the offer, but I really need them to be the 38" Village Marine ones as otherwise they won't fit in the same space as my existing membranes.

    Wanted: Village Marine Pressure Vessel

Yes - the membrane vessel. It has to be a Village Marine on because they are 38" long (vs. the standard 40" long). Presumably just a ploy to force people to buy from Village Marine, but there you go.

    Wanted: Village Marine Pressure Vessel

I’m looking for a replacement Village Marine watermaker pressure vessel (part 32-2537) and wondered whether anyone might have one that they no longer need? Many thanks Tom MV Alchemy Currently in Virginia

    Replacing Vacuflush Pump

We have 5 vacuflush heads on board that are 17 years old and apart from a few duckbill valve replacements and one pump bellows, they have been working perfectly for us for the last 5 years of full time living on board. Having tried other systems on previous boats, I would install vacuflush again.

    Interesting boats

Hi Twistedtree - i tend to agree with everything you’ve said about FPBs but I wondered what you think about long-range powercats. These are fast and efficient but also spacious, light and optimised for spending a lot of time at anchor. They have simple/quick tender deployment, stability at...

For Sale: Lots of trawler spare parts and equipment

Hello all, We have been doing a lot of refitting to our boat over the last couple of years and I have accumulated a lot of spares / equipment that I not longer need and would like to sell: Village Marine Watermaker control panels Village Marine watermaker "Remote Control Center" panels (model...

    Where to Register

Interesting way of thanking someone who attempted to answer your question as helpfully as possible. I saw no attempt at “dishing out humiliation”? Insuring the vessel itself is clearly a personal decision - if you can afford to lose it (e.g. sinking, fire, lightning strike etc.) without it...

    Exterior caulk?

I have had very good results with TDS (Teak Decking Systems) caulk for this purpose. It is designed for caulking teak decks but I checked with the manufacturer that it is fine for this kind of general caulking as well. One other idea is to use black caulk instead of white - no yellowing or...

Our blog about living on a Nordhavn 72

Hello all, I'm not sure whether it is of any interest to anyone, but we have started a blog about our experience of buying, refitting and living on Nordhavn 7202 MV Alchemy (previously Shear Madness). The blog address is http://mvalchemy.com We also have a Facebook page...

    Airmar 110WX vs 220WX

I have the 220 and it is definitely possible to selectively turn off PGN transmission by using the weathercaster software that can be downloaded from the airmar website. I got the 220 so that I would have an additional redundant source of gps/heading, but for wind data either model will do...

    Building a Nordhavn - again

Indeed... my wife and I (+ our 7 year old son) live full time on a Nordhavn 72 and the only problem we have is the cleaning. We’ve decided that paying others to do this but doing almost all our own maintenance is a good balance and seems to work for us so far. Docking and passagemaking with...

Thanks! The Bahamas certainly aren’t the ideal cruising ground for a boat like this but it’s been fine overall. The only real issue is that we can’t get into the really protected anchorages so we’ve had to move quite frequently as fronts have come through and the wind direction has changed...

Slightly misleading as it is from the previous owner’s trip up to Newfoundland. Nice photo though.

Yes, that was us. We saw you in our dinghy when you were anchored off Matt Lowe’s Cay. We were thinking of coming over to say hello but our 6 year old wanted to get back to the boat by then. Hope to see you in the Chesapeake.

The crazy thing is that the first time I stepped foot on a boat was in a November 2014 when I crossed the Atlantic as a crew member. Things moved quite quickly from there!

We’re going to North Palm Beach this weekend then working our way up the east coast in June. We’re leaving the boat near Norfolk for a couple of months in July/August while we go back to the U.K. to see family then we’ll spend a couple of months cruising the Chesapeake. After that, down to the...

Hello all We moved over to power from sail earlier this year when we bought a Nordhavn 72 that we have re-named MV Alchemy (previously Shear Madness). We live on board full time (me, my wife and 6 year old son) and are currently in the Bahamas on a shake down cruise. So far we love the...

    How big is too big???

We recently bought a 72ft Nordhavn and live on board full time (me, my wife and 6 year old son). We had a 56ft sailboat before this so it is a lot bigger and a lot to get used to. So far we’ve found that the only real difficulty (other than cost!) is the cleaning of both the interior and...
