    Fiberglass Repair

Before I call around I thought that I would get the advice of the forum. I am considering the purchase of a 2001 trawler that at one time had a dinghy crane on roof of the fiberglass pilothouse. The crane was removed but it looks like an amateur repaired the holes in the white nonskid...

    Lead in Diesel engine oil

I was looking at a boat with a Cummins diesel engine 330 HP and in the boat saw an engine oil analysis which was "normal" in all respects but one. One of the reports was labelled "critical" and said that the level of lead was extremely high. The engine only has about 900 hours. Can someone tell...

    Twin disc Trolling valve

Thanks guys. In response to an earlier response I know that it can be retrofitted to a Twin Disc transmission. What I was asking and got good responses to was whether the valve actually helped get the trolling speed down to where it should be for salmon.

    Navigation Planning Software

I have been reading about Garmin's Homeport software that allows one to plan a trip on a computer and then transfer the route to an onboard chartplotter which as I understand must also be a Garmin.. Can anyone recommend a similar system for Simrad or Furuno. Thanks.

    Simrad Br24-Nmea 2000

Piers. I got a prompt response from Odin who informed me that the broadband radar will only operate with Navico products. I looked at the online information and could not find an answer. Called Simrad but could not get past voicemail. Next time I have a question I will first inform Chuch by PM...

    Simrad Br24-Nmea 2000

My Google searches did not turn up an answer to this question. Is the Simrad broadband radar compatible with NMEA 2000 so that it could be used with say a Furuno Navnet Chartplotter. Thanks

    Diesel engine removal

Thanks guys. Hopefully I will soon be posting as the owner of a trawler-probably an older American Tug or Nordic Tug. By the way the engine is a B series Cummins 330 HP.

    Diesel engine removal

Using a Nordic Tug as an example, how do you remove a large diesel engine-say a Cummins 220HP engine-if it has to be remanufactured or replaced?*Thanks

    Simrad CA 40

Thanks Piers. Will you be getting a Simrad CP?

    Electronic Installation Cost

I am told by a Raymarine dealer that the installation cost of a full suite (Radar and Chartplotter and associated devices) is about 150% of the cost of the devices themselves. This seems very high. I priced a package at $7k and was told that the installation would run about $10k The boat is an...

    Simrad CA 40

Looking at a boat with this Radar that was probably installed around 2001. I would appreciate any information about this system. It would be used for coastal cruising. I am concerned about it being obsolete now even though at the time of installation it was a high end product with probably more...

    American Tug 34

Thanks Marin. I am off tomorrow for a ten day vacation. When I return I will decide whether to make an offer on a particular boat. If I do I will certainly be an active poster on the great site. BR Russ.

    American Tug 34

Thanks. I may get one of those guidebooks once I have found the right trawler. This is a wonderful site!!

I have no idea what the relevance of Marin's post is to the thread that I started!!!

    Twin disc Trolling valve

I like to fish-salmon halibut-and would appreciate the usefulness of a trolling valve on a Cummins 6BT5.9 engine on a 34-36 foot trawler and any other concerns about such a combination may present. Thanks

    American Tug 34

If anyone has any thoughts on these boats I would appreciate hearing them. Thanks

    Cummins 6BT5.p

Thanks Guys. This information has been very helpful. Keith I will take you up on your offer when I get closer to an actual purchase.

    Cummins 6BT5.p

Sunchaser. I do not have access to the manual. Are you suggesting that fluid and belt changes and setting the valves could be several thousand dollars? Are there other maintenance items that require time and money? Thanks

    Cummins 6BT5.p

I am looking at at Trawler with this engine under 1000 hours and 7 years old. I am told by the broker that these are extremely reliable engines which require little maintenance other than fluid and belt changes and valve adjustments. Would appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks. I am a new user...
