Thanks for the replies, I might just check my connections!

    Voltage Drop

Hi, not a problem but like to understand why my shore power voltage, in a 240 volt system, drops from an indicated 244 volts to 232 volts when my air conditioning is running. The air draws about 6.7 amps. Thanks.

A very sharp iPad flush mount

For those wondering a wireless only iPad running navionics takes all the required gps info from the main Simrad system provided it’s hooked up to the GoFree WiFi Network.

    Fuel Consumption Cummins QSB 5.9

Dark and smelly?? Surely that’s a Gardner engine room not a sterile clean Cummins environment [emoji4]

    Fuel Consumption Cummins QSB 5.9

After a lovely 18 months in North Queensland we are on our way back south. Our trip so far has involved a few delays due to the unsettled weather starting with a 6 day delay at Shaw Island! Our fuel consumption has been slightly higher on the way south due mostly to running at planing speeds...

    Vss voltage sensitive relay failure

Update, disconnected all the power, removed fuses, pulled battery terminals and tried to totally isolate the vsr. Put it all back together and it's working perfectly again cycling on/off depending on charge levels. Saved myself $350!!

    Vss voltage sensitive relay failure

Unfortunately no repair service for these that I can find here in Australia. I'm going to remove it tomorrow and see if I can take it apart in the hope I can see what's wrong.

    Vss voltage sensitive relay failure

They look good but as this is one of a bank of relays that would mean a revamp of the whole board. So if replacement is the only option I am stuck with the marinco.

    Vss voltage sensitive relay failure

Hi, any suggestions before I spend $350 replacing one of the voltage sensitive relays on board?. The led is constantly flashing in the auto on position which according to the manual signifies over or under voltage which according to my panel meters is not the case. I have checked with a...

    How Long will Norcold Run

And fill your water tanks in case you need to move onto the boat after the storm. After cyclone Debbie parts of Airlie had no power or water supply for 10 days. Made living aboard the best option!

    Navionics wrong in Whitsundays

We watched two yachts in succession bump into the fringing reef in Macona yesterday evening though we did try to wave them off. The first one tried anchoring only to swing over the reef whilst the second sailed past them as they tried to extricate themselves and ran into the reef. It was late in...

    Semi-flexible solar panel install

Given my sat dome struggles to work up here I should take it off but it would be just one more thing to store!!

    Semi-flexible solar panel install

It's a pity I only get this result in northerly winds, anything with south in it means my satellite dome and radar scanner manage to partially shade the panels [emoji853]

    Semi-flexible solar panel install

50 amps per hour from the panels is achieved for 3/4 hours at peak sun time. Total wattage reported on the app has peaked at over 700 which is more than their rated capacity. No reason to doubt the numbers as the bep battery monitor backs up the Victron app numbers. I would have been better off...

    Semi-flexible solar panel install

Loving these sunpower panels!! 3.37kw today. They have recharged the house bank and run the boat all day which consumes about 20 amps per hour.

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

Another Cyclone Debbie victim, we saw this Defever in Nara Inlet on Tuesday when taking friends around the islands. I hope they weren't on board. Would have been terrifying.

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

Yes that's a solution but this is our home and where my job is so not really an option. I will trust that it will be a while before Airlie is hit by a slow moving cat 4 cyclone!

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

True, like many things in life luck/Chance plays a part, all you can do is try and move the odds in your favour.

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

The snatch loads on the shorter ropes as the surge rolls thru the marina is hard to believe. Stretch is good!!

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

This one of the 50 plus boats that wasn't in a marina and ended up on the beach, rocks or in the mangroves. I do hope they fix her, lovely old timber boat.

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

I get that but then you are dependent on whose moored up the creek from you, maybe not so well secured and how do you justify risking a $1 million boat on that gamble given that most insurers insist you are in a cyclone rated marina if you want cover during a named cyclone. No choice really when...

    Cyclone Preparations in the Marina

Having just experienced cyclone Debbie with its 24 hours of 150 knot plus winds and inspecting damaged boats in the aftermath I suggest: No short ropes, anywhere, not enough stretch. Do not use non stretch rope, it's very hard on bollards, cleats and the pontoon. Rope to every available cleat...

    Semi-flexible solar panel install

When not shaded we have consistently seen 50 amps from the solar panels, they have cut our genset run time by an hour a day and mean our 780 ah house bank is at full charge by late afternoon in spite of running 3 fridges, a freezer , inverter etc. Better still if we lose shore power when away...

    Bluechip's 2016 Winter Adventure

Not totally unscathed, minor gelcoat damage, flybridge windshield ais aerial and our front hatch leading to some water damage. Abell Point back to normal except for one jetty being replaced. I believe Mackay was hit bad and some still waiting for power.

    Bluechip's 2016 Winter Adventure

Well we are tucked up nicely in Abell Point Marina and have survived our first, hopefully last, cyclone and are now waiting for the SE winds to drop off so we can enjoy the winter boating delights of the Whitsundays. What a great adventure.
