    How to tie to Dolphins?

I have tied to the Dolphins many times on the Okeechobee Waterway, notably several times in a GH37. It is always very straight forward and makes for a good nights sleep. I have never had problems with commercial traffic. The only thing that I think was not spelled out adequately is that many of...

How low to run fuel tanks?

Carry plenty of spare filters and go. You have already said if you get tight on fuel you can stop at a closer marina. You should not use the bottom of your tank as a collective for contamination, it will just get higher and higher in the tank. Your filters are the antidote. Just don't run out!

    Great Harbour new N44 “concept”

Well folks I am certainly game to present a different view of the Trombley’s boat build process and final result then you may currently have. As they say everybody is welcome to their own opinion but not their own facts. What I propose is an overall review of just exactly what happened. The...

    Great Harbour new N44 “concept”

My name is Ken Fickett. I have never tried to obscure my identity in any way. I am the owner and founder of Mirage Manufacturing. I do have the user name “Rockbottom” an old childhood nickname. I have only posted to this forum on a few occasions. I expect they are still up. I was taught that to...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

This has been a fun conversation for me and it is great to hear what many of you have to say. We are always looking for the next project and there are great ideas on this forum. I will get numbers on the fleet when I get back but right now I am in the Orlando Airport headed to Texas to give...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Great Harbour Differences To start the hull on the GH and N 37s are exactly the same as well as the two 47 are exactly the same. Additionally the difference between a 37 and 47 hull is a strategically placed 10ft stretch in the middle of the hull. This is something that was calculated very...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Remember that the GH trawlers all have twins and they are spaced about 8 ft apart. With differential throttle you have quite a bit of control. The mistake many people make handling twins is that they fail to include rudder to assist in controlling the boat. It is pretty much essential in heavy...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

I probably have something well over 25,000 miles in Great Harbour Trawlers of all type but mostly the "N" series. There is not much question about the fact that the GHs have more windage and it does show when you are driving the boat. I never thought it was a big deal but it has occasionally...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Great Harbour Thanks to all of you for making this a delightful experience. Lou and I have a combined total of over 75 years in the business and we stayed way clear of forums and posting because of the lack of even common courtesy found on some of the forums. I am speaking for myself here but I...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Great Harbour Secrets I guess Lou and I are letting the cat out of the bag maybe too much. Everyone should be starting to get the idea that when the design team goes to work, which also includes the marketing department and the accounting department, that issues and solutions start to...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Great Harbour Design If I don't bore everyone I will explain a bit more about the “uniqueness” of the Great Harbour Trawlers. The shape which is often mistaken for steel came about as a result of the simple desire of a relatively small company to develop a significant line of live aboard boats...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

I am the guy that owns the company that builds them. Trust me they are glass. Remember that typically when a designer or builder talks about displacement that is the weight at the designed water line NOT what the boat weighs out of the factory. The displacement includes fuel, water, food, gear...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

But steel yachts are nothing new. So if the GH is indeed something new it is not that it is steel. By the way Eric, I may misunderstand your wording but the Great Harbour Trawlers are all fiberglass not steel. If I got you wrong I apologize. Ken Fickett

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Great Harbour For a little clarity there are four models of Great Harbour Trawlers that have been built. The GH37 and N37, and the GH47 and N47. Both 37s share the same hull as do the two 47s. The difference between the “N” and the “GH” in both cases is the design above the rubrail. The Ns are...

Great Harbor Trawlers still in business?

Hey Folks, Great Harbour, (Mirage Manufacturing) is indeed still in business after 42 years of constant operation at the same phone number! With hundreds of thousands of miles on Great Harbour Trawlers they continue to be well loved by their owners. We are constantly amazed at the misinformation...
