inspect fuel tanks on Marine Trader 36 Sundeck?

I'm so ready, RT. Ecstatic with high hopes... realistic expectations. Scheduled survey and packing my vehicle with enough to live on her (snowbird plans.) Waited 15 years for a slip to "pop" on the Naval Air Station in Key West. We're finally retired, again, and can begin to enjoy. Lived...

inspect fuel tanks on Marine Trader 36 Sundeck?

Yessiree Al... and THANK YOU. I've been hovering for over 1.5 years and jumped on this the very same day it came on the market. And I'm talking accepted offer that same day, sight unseen. I NEED (!) a.ka. really want, this exact model as I have a narrow beam slip and there aren't many 36'...

inspect fuel tanks on Marine Trader 36 Sundeck?

Good question--I intend to find out and should have asked that before.

inspect fuel tanks on Marine Trader 36 Sundeck?

Yes... cooperative owner and I believe the permission is mainly based on confidence that they are in fine shape--which would be ideal. I guess this because the boat was on the market for only a day (I've been searching almost two years for this model) and they have five other people (if you...

inspect fuel tanks on Marine Trader 36 Sundeck?

Thank you both very much... I will look for access panels there. My accepted offer/contract included my request to be able to remove a small part of the panel in front of each tank in order to insert a camera on a stick. Owner agreed. Never having done anything like this--I assume the panel...

inspect fuel tanks on Marine Trader 36 Sundeck?

Would anyone know if there is any kind of access door/etc to inspect the fuel tanks on a 36' Marine Trader Sundeck? I haven't seen anyway to do this without destroying the acoustic pane. Thanks.

A big Hello from Buffalo NY to the Forum

So fun to read the word "Tonawanda" that I haven't heard in decades. I grew up there but left in 1967... I understand it is quite the changed place! Good luck with your journey and congratulations. I just went last week to view a 36 Marine Trader for sale on Lake MI... contemplating a long...

Oh my, I wish you well and I appreciate your post. (Sure is helping get me off my do-loop of thoughts....)

Worried--wallpapered walls on a potential boat purchase

Reality check is right! I will chaulk all of this up to a good experience-- a learning one anyways, which is was in a thousand ways. It is true--I realize trying to talk myself into being comfortable with a boat is no way to go. (Might have to spend much more to be comfortable too.) My low...

Worried--wallpapered walls on a potential boat purchase

Wow, lots of good insight. I will attempt to answer/explain a little more for those interested. RE Tanks: There was no way to see much of the tanks as they were encased in those white sound-proof (I think fiberglass) panels. One small (1’x1’) panel is removable to access a port. Tank...

Worried--wallpapered walls on a potential boat purchase

Big liability for the owner with the pressure test I understand--can sort of understand why the refusal-- low price, why take the risk.

Worried--wallpapered walls on a potential boat purchase

I understand and do not want tank replacement trouble! But the agreed on offer is $40k while the assessed value is $52 and the three others on the market (similar years) are in the $60k range. Perhaps this has already been figured in... I think I will offer another $10K less and see what...

Worried--wallpapered walls on a potential boat purchase

Hello everyone, I have just surveyed and sea trialed a 1990 36' Marine Trader Sundeck in Key West. She surveyed (and an engine survey) fair--needs a few large fixes like bottom peeling and numerous smaller mechanical fixes. The two things I am going crazy with worry about are black iron...

Update... decided to nix the Sundowner tug-- figured if it caused that much anxiety it just wasn't right (and the anxiety was palpatable.) Excited to report I am surveying a 1990 36' Marine Trader Sundeck in Key West on Monday. Love that layout-- and no nonprofits involved!

Yes... right. The upgrades includes all new (quality) windows and frame, new aluminum tanks and their support pad, new a/c, new generator in sound thing, new (quality) upholstry, new electronic ac/dc panel... that's most of the big stuff (no new electronics.)

I did search for values... Nada guides does not have these boats listed (in that year they were made by Valor Marine) but did get a BUC value at $60k.

Yes, I understand. There are four of the same boats on the market that are two feet smaller (30s)--of similar age. Two listed in the mid 50k range and two in the mid 70s. He "added value" to this boat for it has $150k of upgrades. I am feeling that I am making myself buy this boat because of...

Thanks everyone. I am waiting for their contract to be sent this afternoon which will, of course, explain much more. Meanwhile, I'll detail a little more of what I know for those interested. First of all, the NPO who's mission it is to handle boat donations for other maritime NPOs handles all...

The "as-is/where-is" meant that they would not bicker nor lower the price should a survey find anything wrong. If there were big things wrong I could always back out... but again, after the cost of said survey. Guess they are confident. I would surely do a good survey. NOW... very...

Thank you Art & Cappy. Yikes--hadn't really thought about wanting to sell her during the next three years. That would make a huge difference... as I was thinking if she turned out to really be too small for comfort (one of my concerns) I could sell her easily. Not so! And Cappy... wish...

Thanks to you both. They talk of it technically as not "fraud" --more like a legal loophole. The boat DOES have the higher value that the owner can write off... but the non-profit doesn't want to pay expenses to fix and store the boat for perhaps sometime waiting for a buyer...hence the...

    considering purchasing

Thank you for all the great info on this forum! I am very close to owning a new-to-me, 1987 32' boat but have some concerns and hope to get some advice. The owner (through the broker) wants to donate the boat to a non-profit at a much higher valued amount than the price the non-profit would...

First Post... looking for a trawler

Thanks very much, Bacchus! No, I had not looked at Albins--for some reason I thought they were too beamy. Will check it out... oh boy, a whole new world!!
