    Will trawlers disappear?

This maybe an indicator of what we use in the next generation of cruising boats https://robbreport.co.uk/motors/marine/this-100-foot-catamaran-has-crossed-the-atlantic-using-only-hydrogen-fuel-and-solar-power-2798895/ This is proof of concept for several technologies, but it is how things...

    Looking at ST 44 2016 - 2019, good/bad/ugly...

Thanks. Great quality boats. Very familiar with their quality. However, for the same size boat, about 200k more for 2-4 yr old used model. Breaks my budget However, you get what you pay for. To use my car analogy, the Sabres are the Mercedes (or maybe higher), the Benes are Olds (maybe Chevy)

    Rolling, Cat vs. mono

I am looking at a powerboat after sailing for 55 years. 5 years ago I got a sailing cat. My wife gets seasick, and I thought not heeling might make a difference. Was the best decision I made! Except for sailing to windward, I loved it as well. Great room. Very little rolling in beam seas as...

    Swift Trawler vs. Tugs

Thanks for this. How is the rocking / rolling motion both underway and at anchor/mooring.

    Swift Trawler vs. Tugs

Looking at ST 44 (or maybe 41, but these are new only and not sure I want to spend an extra 200k..) vs. Nordic Tug 39 (though currently can't find anything used right now). Would consider 37 -42. Coastal cruising useage. Will mostly go displacement speeds, but want the option to go faster so...

    Update on Battery Choices

Thanks RSLIFKIN. With 550W of solar, I could leave my refrig on ALL the time. Didn't worry during the week when I was away, batteries always at full (I am in NE and talking about the boating season when we normally get lots of sun). Even with 2 rainy days in a row, no issues. While on the boat...

    Update on Battery Choices

Great thread. Looking at moving from sail to power. Sailboat had 550W solar/inverter/500AH of FLA, and was looking to move to Li. No generator, but was a cat so had dual 80A hitachi alts, and I could put in quite a bit for the usual 1-2 hr a day of motoring. Now looking at say a Bene Swift 44...

    Looking at ST 44 2016 - 2019, good/bad/ugly...

Thanks. Didn't know about the FB group. Will check it out. I keep my boat in RI. Also looking at Greenline. Appreciate the detailed answers. Just looked up RS Aero. I had Laser #74, but that was I think also 73/74? Couldn't imagine sailing that now ;-)

    Solar panels on STs?

What Li gets you is the ability to take in A as fast as whatever can output them regardless of SOC. I am stunned to hear that 2 300HP engines only have stock Hitachi 100A alt. I had 2 30HP yanmars on my sailing cat, and that had stock 80A alt! Is this true, that the ST 44 only has stock 100A...

    Solar panels on STs?

Thanks. What are the sizes of your alternators. I would think these could put out much more power than a Genny even with say a 100A charger.

    Solar panels on STs?

Thanks, but specifically looking for solar on ST ,not in general. Didn't see any threads in this forum on it.

    Solar panels on STs?

:) Posting in Swift Trawler, ST , forum so figured people would know ST... Many thanks for that quick reply. Appreciate it.

    Solar panels on STs?

Looking at a ST 44. I haven't seen anything about anyone putting solar panels on them? Coming from a sailboat, everyone is trying to cram as much solar on as possible! I don't know if more sailboats are at moorings vs. dock where they are plugged in, but I had 550 W of solar , was on a...

    Looking at ST 44 2016 - 2019, good/bad/ugly...

Wondering if those with one of these could give some general impressions. Coming from a sailing cat, can't do that anymore. But am looking for a boat that can faster than 8kts if needed. I would like something that if I want to do 50mi I can get there at lunch, not dinner. The ST44 hits that...

Using single engine of dual engine boat?

No, it comes from what part of the power curve you are using. to move the boat at 6kts doesn't need much from a 30hp engine. So when you have 60 hp available, and only need a fraction of it, you can use 1 engine. Maybe it doesn't fully translate as a catamaran is not a true displacement hull...

Using single engine of dual engine boat?

Nope. On a sailboat, better FE with single engine for just cruising.non linear relationship between fuel used and speed as you get closer to hull speed.

Using single engine of dual engine boat?

I am coming from a sailing cat that had dual engines. When in the harbor for maneuvering, you use both engines and can do things I never dreamed I could do on previous monohulls. Having 2 engines 16' apart was just amazing. However, when motoring on a passage, you normally just use a single...

Boat for general cruising and great loop

Wow. Thanks for that info. I have yet to see a GL, unfortunately the dealer is in FL and I am up north right now and won't fly. Just curious, the 40 is the older boat, but more room. I think the beam is 1.5' wider. Do you know if that portside deck is that small. That is a huge issue. Also as...

Boat for general cruising and great loop

Have gotten away from the FP powercat 40 and looking at the following boats at around 40' that can do more than displacement speeds 1. Greenline 39/40. Not sure I care about the electric mode, but cool that you can do 6kts for 3-4 hrs without using fuel, then do another 5 hours charging...

Any Owner Feedback on the ST 41?

Actually, I am looking for info on what the differences are between the 2 boats. Why was the 41 added? It looks a bit less trawler like? Where do you put the dink? The interiors look similiar, I like that the 41 has a full size fridge/freezer. Am looking between these boats and trying to figure...

Boat for general cruising and great loop

Very familiar with this issue as I am coming from a sailing cat. However, in looking at specs, I see many 40' boats are 13.9' wide. Standard slips are usually 14'. Or is that not an issue. You are not going to fit in by just a few inches...

Boat for general cruising and great loop

Thank you. Can you recommend some manufacturers and lines? I know sailboats well. I know the few powercats, and I know the trawlers. But not other types. The American Tug is a good suggestion as it will do what the Bene swift does. For range and economy, doing 8kts is fine. But I would like to...

Boat for general cruising and great loop

@rslif: what speed is 'fast' on loop? @lepke: don't understand what a "long" boat is. Also, what are the slow spots? Appreciate the quick replies.

Boat for general cruising and great loop

Coming from 55 years as a sailor, and looking at what type of powerboat to purchase. One thing I am looking at is doing the great loop, as well as other coastal cruising in FL and North east. Am looking at a powercat or swift trawler only because I would like to get past the 50 mi a day limit I...
