    Armchair Weather Routing

Thanks! I was intimidated enough to stay home and hire a professional!

    Armchair Weather Routing

Not sure who Travis is, but my Captain, Charlie, is using Weather Routing Inc (WRI) as well as a variety of other sources, one of which is not me. I'm just having fun following along and looking for windows. My guess is he takes off from Bodega Bay Thursday morning and makes it to Newport. The...

    Armchair Weather Routing

Hi guys, I have a new to me Navigator 53 that is on its way from Newport Beach to Seattle. It left on Saturday afternoon and is currently holed up in Bodega Bay waiting on the weather. It has been cruising between 9 and 12 knots depending on weather and waves, holds 750 gallons of fuel, and...

    Best Gas Card?

Right, I think it comes down to if the fuel docks register as gas stations or marine services, which is why I asked for experience with it. I just checked my credit card bill and the last fill up at the port of Poulsbo didn't register as a gas station on my Chase Card, so probably wouldn't have...

    Best Gas Card?

I just got an email from Costco for its Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi that promises 4% cash back at Gas stations, which sounds pretty good for no annual fee. Here is their fine print: 4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year in gas...

    Manson Boss

I'm a huge fan of the slot! When West Marine sent my 45lb anchor (literally on my doorstep with a UPS label stuck on the fluke!) the "Preventer" was missing. After a few emails in which they mentioned shipping the anchor back to them and in turn shipping it back to the manufacturer (and I...

Just started shopping for the next boat

We looked at the Bayliner 32's and 38's as well as many others before seeing a Carver Voyager 370 and falling in love with it. Its got the layout of a larger pilot house in a more compact footprint. We looked at about 6 of them before buying ours and couldn't be happier. We got our '96 for ~$60k...

    Manson Boss

I had a 35lb Boss and just upgraded to the 45lb Boss on my Carver 370 Voyager this spring when West Marine had it for ~$150. Dragged once last summer, but was running way to short a scope due to tide miscalculations. I've been impressed with the anchors, build quality seems great, but no...

    We're Trawler Owners!

I'd never heard of it either, but stayed there this summer for the first time after Eagle Harbor was full. Looked it up later on AC and had the same thought. Great spot though, one of our new favorites!

    Start vs. House bank

While I would have preferred a solution that makes me coffee as well, this certainly sounds the best. I installed the 4 GC batteries yesterday and got the Victron 700 working (i believe) I kept the 2 group 27 start batteries as dedicated starters/windlass power and will be hooking up an ACR...

    Start vs. House bank

Thats the one I tried to link to earlier. With those I could fit 8 GC batteries plus a separate start battery. I'm going to start with the 4 GC batteries and if I want more power I can purchase those and add them in without undoing too much work. Thanks!

    Start vs. House bank

You're right on the alternators, not sure why I thought there was only one. I'll see how they are wired today.

    Start vs. House bank

That sounds perfect, so the Blue Sea Si-ACR automatic charging Relay - 12V DC 120a? I wonder how to wire that with my battery monitor (victron bmv-700) on the house bank?

    Start vs. House bank

So after looking at it last night and with all the helpful advise from you guys i think i have a plan. I can fit 4 golf carts in where 2 of the group 27s were. I'll leave the other 2 group 27s as start batteries and also leave the separate generator battery. I'll see how that works for a while...

Dave, I appreciate you literally thinking outside the battery box on this one! I'll check it out tonight when I'm assessing how many batteries I can fit. :thumb:

    Start vs. House bank

I really appreciate the throughts! The genset battery is in the lazarette by the generator, so its not taking up any space by the rest of the bank which is under the saloon. I guess i could run the starter wires back to it, but that seems unnecessary. The current group 27s are duel purpose I...

    Start vs. House bank

Thanks David! I got 4 GC2s from Costco yesterday for $94 each +tax. I'm going to try to fit them Thursday to see how many i can actually squeeze in there. Its mostly a matter of space at this point, if i can do 6+ starting then i'll probably do that.
