we have same set up, mesh cover for when we are onboard, and sunbrella covers when we are away. really like the mesh, gives you privacy and keeps out most of the hot sun, same time lets in lots of light and visibility from inside out. the mesh covers we have are made for each window, and the...

Glueing davits to an achilles inflatable????

We put her together and inflated the tubes on Fathers day morning. Even treated the tubes with a cleaning agent so her blue coat really shone as she went back in the wet. Her new varnished floor, transom and bench seats were glistening. The new bottom drain plug kept her dry on the inside. When...

How was YOUR Father's Day weekend?

on saturday we went and picked up our (new to us) used toy. 13 ft Novurania RIB with a 40HP o/b. Our marina (Alamitos bay in Long Beach) is very large, it has a canal system going around the Isle of Naples so we did some touring in the new rib, had good friends over as well. Good food and drinks...

Shipping 40' CHB from West coast USA to Australia?

check out some of the car carriers, usual they allow cargo to be loaded on deck which is what i think Arctic is talking about. longshoremen are usually not gentle, and you cannot get around them, atleast they are present on all US westcoast ports. longshoremen also make the job very expensive as...

this is the wrench i am going to bring * Tom, antiseize matter? what the heck is that? or are your taking about the blue lock paste? i guess the anti-seize stuff would help if the PO had used it. And yes the PO did do the initial rounding of the nut. btw, i did try one of those sockets...

Glueing davits to an achilles inflatable????

update: the pads are on.. did the job at home, went 100% by the book. right temp, right humidity, no direct sun. sanded and prepped using a solvent containing MEK/Toulene, two thin layers of glue with curing time in between. used gripwise x 4 to keep the pads firmly in place while curing for 48...

Changing my heat exchanger zinc, cant get the plug out...help

lots of good advice.. my mechanic said pretty much the same, apply lots of heat and dont be afraid to apply some force to the nut. i already have the easy out drill and reverse out bits, but that will be (second to) last resort. i am gonna try with a file to make the now rounded bolt back to...

Glueing davits to an achilles inflatable????

*you had to ask i deflated the tender, took her home. upon removing the other of the two pads, i guess the glue showed its strength and peeled some of the outer layer off from the achilles tube.. now consider taking it to a shop to get it done. * thanks for the link, it looks workable but...

    Caquinez Coot

haven been off-loaded from the container ship YM Cypress a few minutes earlier. Jim Dewitt, Bill Kimley, (both former extraordinary sailboat racers, now artist and boat builder, respectively) and I boarded that Coot from Dick Horn's chase boat. We quickly disconnected the four crane cables...

    Furuno/Airmar Weatherstation

sailboaters have an inept quest to find the optimal wind and force, this makes sense. trawler folks... i dont really see the need, radar will help if you get fogged in which is useful. i would spend my money on a good barometer, perhaps combined with indoor/outdoor temp. barometric pressure and...

Have you added below water (underwater) stern lights?

Seems popular in our marina to have an underwater type light as the stern. we were at Catalina last summer and a guy who have the lights had them on while at anchor at night time. it was amazing to see, like having your personal aquarium. was wondering if anyone here have these lights and if...

    Replacing battery boxes

looks like this calls for a visit to my local harborfreight store.. theoretically i should be able to lift it straight up (if there is a beam right there..cant recall) remove the old box, install the new box and lower the batts into the new box. somehow i doubt it will be this simple.
