    Inverter

I should offer more info, the inverter charger has an internal switch so that when shore power is not available the inverter side is activated, the generator and inverter will not be active at the same time as when the generator is running the inverter charger acts the same as when shore power...

    Inverter

But the inverter see’s shore power when that is on, why is that any different to seeing the generator power when that is running. My question was would the generator be damaged.

    Inverter

Our boat has a switch for shore power and one for ships power and I plan to connect both the generator output and the inverter output to the ships power switch, when the generator is running then the inverter will not be operating but when the generator is turned off then the inverter will turn...

Lawsuit against Wake Boats in Oregon

Wake boats The twra suggests that you get the boat number of the offending vessel but don’t advise how and I doubt they would do much anyway, if you cut down a tree on the backside without a permit you get fined, but excessive wake downs hundreds of trees each year. Go figure.

Lawsuit against Wake Boats in Oregon

Wake boats We live on a cut in the watts bar lake and wake boats come in often and the potential for damaging docks and the foreshore is great, also if we are on our floating dock you have to sit down or grab hold of something not get get dumped in the lake and working on a small boat...

    Overpropped...But Why?

Comfort We usually Cruise at 2000rpm and get about 9.7 knots which seems everything is comfortable with, when you and your boat are getting on some comfort is nice.

    My battery set-up

Thanks a lot, I am leaning towards good quality maintenance free g31 for the house and also for the engine start as I think for our limited use and cost per amp is probably the best choice, as both sets have a fairly good “smart” charger we may get some good use from them, thanks again.

    My battery set-up

I probably don’t have the height for 6volt but am thinking that deep cycle might be a better option for the house bank ?

    My battery set-up

Battery’s getting older We have 2 g31 batteries for each engine with their own charger, a separate one each for the the genset and winch and we used to have 6 g31s for our house bank with a charger inverter but 3 died. We don’t live aboard and our cruises are fairly short say weekends or a week...

    Cruising On One Engine

Cruising on one engine. I have used one engine for some long slow trips but not to save fuel but a regular hourly use of switching engines can help with oil changes etc as the engine hours are less.

Lost steering on my upper helm

Haven't got into it yet but have lost steering on the upper helm, lower works fine. The wheel just turns and it does have a key in place. Any advice is welcome before I start to explore. Btw the boat is a mk2 43'.

    Power steering

The wheel is easy to turn in both nav stations so happy that not powered.

    Power steering

I think the grey cylinder is some kind of redundant rudder position widget as the shaft that turns the rudders moves through it and the wire that comes from it has the colors of wire that normally sends data to a controller, we have a rudder position sender and solenoid.

    Power steering

These pics show our steering set up, would this be hydraulic steering and works of one of the engines ? Also what does the grey cylinder do which has what looks like a multi wire cord coming from it but attached to nothing, thanks for your help.

    Tell Us About Your Gulfstar

Tell us about your gulf star We have a 1974 GS 43 which has Perkins 6.354 engines, she is well layer out and in good condition for her age. With upper and lower nav stations and an engine room I can almost stand up straight in she is not too bad to work on, also tons of room for spares etc.
