    Air Conditioning

I have seen many posts on A/C. I purchased a boat without A/C knowing that in NC I would need to add. Here is my take on marine a/c units. I called the MFG and they said 18,000 would do it. I looked around and decided on a Flagship Marine 18,000. Everyone who came on the boat could not believe...

    Documented Vessels.

Some states now require state registration payable every year or in NC you can purchase a multiple year decal. The decal goes on the starboard side although you don't need the registration number on the hull if you are also documented. The decal is like the old decals like some stated had you...

    Documented Vessels.

In NC I had to take the sales contract with the price paid to the DMV so the state can collect sales tax. They do not care about CG docs Bill

    Replacing rusted out fuel tanks

I had a similar problem on my 36' twin engine and after looking at cutting the teak and holly sole and removing the aft doors and tight clearance everywhere I decided to cut a hole in the side. 3' by 7' hole for a 175 gallon tank. The guy used a 1/8 wide blade to cut the hole and while the...

    Flagship AC systems

Hi, I bought a 18,000 BTU a/c from them about 3 1/2 years ago. Boat never had a/c. Would not buy another ! VERY NOISY, before buying I looked at reviews and being noisy was mentioned but I said it will be in a cabinet, my mistake. It was less expensive than some but you get what you pay for...

    rear view camera

Rear View I have not added one yet but I am investigating. Friend has two, one mounted on each side of the boat, good when backing into slip. I have been looking at two also with a split screen. The one thing I have picked up is how fast the screen refreshes. Reviews say some models are slow...

    Holding Tank Lock Out

All, Although I can't speak for National Park Service regulations I am a certified vessel inspector in the United States Power Squadron and give the same inspection with the sticker that the USCG AUX. gives. I have passed many boats with the tie wrap on the thru hull or with the handle removed...

Is this mainship 34 trawler has some big problem?

Ty, I'm sure many will have opinions and I would say the green is not an issue but I have never seen the white powder. To me, more of an issue would be such low hours, just a vacation home ? not a cruiser and if that was the case was any maintenance done ? When I purchased our boat there were no...

    Propane/vs Microwave

Like some have said, it's personal preference. One of our first trips, and we stayed at a marina, we realized the a/c could not cope with the heat load of the propane stove in North Carolina. The surveyor recommended all the propane hoses be replaced so that played into the decision also to...

    ICW Strip Charts

Most Cost Effective Air Conditioning System?

Sea Breeze, I have installed two a/c on my 36 from scratch, never had a/c before. One was a Flagship Marine 18,000 btu and would not recommend. The 2nd one a 10,000 Btu, Marine Air by Dometic and cannot say enough positive things.. Rotatable discharge, Three different spots to take your...

Now is the time to act, we can all do something good!

I suppose if that makes you feel better do it. However, as China is building coal fired generating stations as fast as they can and Germany is building one also to slow down 1/2 knot makes no difference. And as for reducing our carbon footprint solar and wind WILL NEVER be enough! If you want...

    Adding a 120v outlet

Guys, We had the fire marshal visit our marina in NC when the issue of extension cords came up. He said "extension cords are only for temporary use when someone is present" " they are not to be left unattended" The only correct method is approved cords and inlets Anyone can disagree but...

    Adding a 120v outlet

Guys, As mentioned there is only one way to do this properly considering safety and resale value, yes it will be sold at some point. New 30 AMP inlet and breaker panel and GFCI outlets.

Best 16,500 BTU AC/Heat for the Buck

Not too long ago I installed from scratch a new Dometic Turbo Vector unit and it is great. Rotatable discharge, multiple places provided for the condensate drain and the sensor for the temp is not in the thermostat but in the return air flow so it does not mater where you place the thermostat ...
