    Dishwasher

Dishwasher? We haven't had a dishwasher on board, but will have, if we can fit one in! We think our home unit, a Bosch, uses less water than hand washing, and is definitely more sanitary! We had less colds passed around the family when using a dishwasher. Especially true when we had a larger...

    Final Voyage Of The Mischief

Matt and Connie We just completed watching your videos to Maryland. We enjoyed every minute of it! You two should received an award for making such an informative video of your real time boating experiences!! Your trip mirrored part of our trip which we made in 2000! We regret we do not have...

How far have you been in your Coastal Cruiser?

Shanty, The Cruiser's SSB frequencies doesn't require a Ham license, in fact, I think there have been some changes down this line! Others cruisers I'm sure will give you the updates! Refueling in Venezuela was not an option for us, 10+ years ago, but all things change! In all our cruising...

How far have you been in your Coastal Cruiser?

Georgetown Bahamas We went to two Georgetown Regattas, in 2000 & 2001. Lot's of fun, it's better if your as self-sufficient as possible, as anchoring out is done by most. Marina is small & limited as often over 400 boats attend. The bay is large though and lots of anchorages scattered...

How far have you been in your Coastal Cruiser?

Thanks for your inquiry! I rambled on so much and know we didn't give any details! As you know, it's just one day trip at a time, and each day has a story! Most stories are pleasant in our memories, although at the time som "seas are rough"! The trip on the Pacific west coast has many lengthy...

How far have you been in your Coastal Cruiser?

The Bradfords Retirement Cruising Getting ready to retire, in 1993, living in Colorado, we were boat shopping in Seattle. We had no big water, boating experience. We looked at many different styles and manufacturer's boats, to only become more confused. We wanted to go to Alaska in the spring...

    Direct TV

"Follow me TV" antenna drive system, works fine, is not cheap but much more reasonable than some of the Antenna systems. It'll work with Dish or Direct TV, but is not overly good underway, but will work! Not too good way north (like SE Alaska), dish is a little too small! The follow me Drive...

    Paravane

We had paravanes on our 43' Defever that had winches for lowering the outreaching "booms". They were heavy, took time to operate, difficult to retrieve, BUT Worth every bit of the trouble!!! We took the boat over 15,000nm, and even though we are fair weather boaters, we got caught several times...

    Loopers Chime in.

We did the loop in 2000, threw in a sidetrip to Maine, which forces one into having to go too fast, if that's possible in a trawler! It was an adventure for us in all areas. The Erie Canal was fun, as we enjoy "small towns" and the people! Most everyone was super friendly, tying up to the "town...

    Boat Taxes for Non-Residents

Thanks for the numerous inputs! Still wonder if "on the hard" makes any difference, i.e., would make it worthwhile for us "out of state" boaters? We've gone to Alaska 3 times and departing in late April and coming back in September means we've exceeded our 180 days!! That's why we are concerned...

    Boat Taxes for Non-Residents

Are non-resident boaters liable for taxes in Washington, California or Florida, if they store their boats "on the hard" over the winter, and are in these states waters less than 60 days? Thanks for any inputs in advance.

My 3 favorite books about boats that I have read more than once are......

The Cheechakoes by Wayne Short; Albie, & Billy, The Sky Pilot; also by W. Short; In the Wake of an Alaskan Mailboat; by Dennis Sperl, and of course; The Curve of Time by M. Wylie Blanchet, are all books to remember! -- Edited by LadyMJ on Friday 11th of February 2011 01:04:43 PM

    Stopping solenoid not working

A sticky solenoid can be cured by the cleaning processes, previously mentioned. I had a similiar problem caused by a "high resistance"/ Poor ground connection. A combination of a "sticky" solenoid and poor ground would be compounded when hot!
