Moorage in Seattle for a 37' power boat so we can hit the 2025 Boat Show

Consider staying at the Bremerton Marina. It's right next to the ferries to Seattle. The fast ferry is only about 30 minutes. The car ferry is an hour. The Seattle dock is half way between Bell Harbor and the Lumen Field location.

    Dead Battery Bank

With 8 year old batteries they probably need replacement. I had a similar situation but with a new bank of 8 golf cart batteries. I lost shore power during an extended trip and my less than an year old house bank was flat, less than 1 volt. My smart charger wouldn't charge them at all...

Need "Obsolete Parts, 1989 Onan MDKD Diesel Genset with a Kubota diesel eng.

Both one of my marina mates and I have the exhaust manifold problem. I was able find a used MDKD and switch gensets. The marina mate sent my cracked manifold to somewhere on the east coast to get the cost to fabricate a new one. Yikes! $3k each. A competent marine exhaust fabricator could make...

    Rearming an inflatable PFD

Rearming an inflatable life jacket is easy and a kit is about $49. I suggest buying the appropriate kit at the same time as the life jackets have the right kits on hand. We wear ours any time the weather is getting frisky, while docking and when in the dinghy. Annual maintenance is prudent. Ours...

    Pyrotechnic Rant Du Jour

If you fire any of them in training I'd strongly suggest hearing protection. The 12 gauge pistols, at least, are very loud. What did you say???

    Gray Plastic water piping

SharkBite has a fitting that adapts polybutylene to pex. I have used them updating sections of supply lines on our boat.

Why Move from Sailboat to Trawler?

Ours is a similar story. 3 decades of cruising and racing sailboats in the PNW were fun. When we quit racing and just cruised we realized had a really slow power boat with a really tall radio antenna complete with cramped living space. It was time for more comfort afloat. We enjoy the views...

    Helm pump, pumping air?

I just bled my helm yesterday after replacing a section of damaged tubing. My steering system has upper and lower Capilano 250v helm pumps and an external Univalve check valve. Your check valve is inverted compared to what I have. My return line is on top. The two port side goes to the cylinder...

    Dinghy Dock Limits

The only time I raise my eyebrows at the size of a tender is when someone side ties at a dingy dock. Bow in pretty much negates length as a factor. When the dock is crowded I'm good with tying long and climbing over tenders to get to the dock, ours included.

    Converting sailboat to powerboat

Without the rig most sail boats are over ballasted resulting in a very uncomfortable motion. A naval architect, preferably the designer, could provide insight in how much of ballast weight to remove. This likely would result in modifying the keel. Not impossible but imo necessary to have an...

    AIS receiver via VHF

My experience is receive only a shared antenna is satisfactory. I am using a single antenna with my Horizon VHF that also receives AIS. It is working fine for our current purposes. We spend very little time transmitting with the VHF so we have no issues with keeping current with AIS targets...

Class-T Fuse Block and Fuses. T-105’s and 2/0 cable.

This is another great thread. The Marine How To article is excellent, well written and it clearly communicates the information. I made a donation as this site has so much value and it would be a shame to loose it.

    GenSet Replacement

I'm also in need of a new generator or to find an exhaust manifold/coolant tank for my 8kw Onan MDKD. If I go with a new generator it will be in the 5kw range. Currently mine goes through a 30 amp breaker which makes it difficult to use 8kw. The break in requirements make me wonder how to...

    DD 6-71 Throttle Adjustment

If the end fitting onthe cable is binding on the arm I would try mounting ii with the treaded boss to the outside or using a thicker spacer. That would angle the cable out a bit but usually is ok. This assumes the throttle does not bind with cable and fitting disconnected.

    Emergency boarding ladder

I was also concerned about getting back on to boat after falling in. We also have a boarding ladder that is blocked by tender. After looking at everything available we settled on the Plastimo Safety Ladder in a bag. It mounts on the stern clear by dropping a loop of line over the cleat. We have...

    Wanted: Onan MDKD for Parts

Our trusty MDKD with the Kubota 3 cylinder motor needs a functioning exhaust manifold. Ours is cracked beyond repair so I'm looking for a manifold (Onan 154-2475) or even a complete unit. I can pick up on the west coast. Larry

    Mistakes

I certainly try and measure at least twice before cutting. An old mentor who was a carpenter also had a saying I still enjoy. "I've cut it twice and it's still too short."

    Is there “the” coastal cruiser

One might consider a semi custom built on a commercial fishing hull like a Delta. From time to time these come up for sale on Yacht World. I like the concept of a tough, proven hull and propulsion package.

FL120 secondary filters fuel inlet fitting?

It appears the two fittings in the photo could have started out the same. The right one has a narrower hex portion which would allow the fitting to be screwed in further. A bit of lathe work could modify a standard fitting if the other was not available.
