    Headset/Communicator Recommendations

I can vouch for Senate as well. I have been using a set of SMH10 on my bike for 3 or 4 years now and am quite satisfied. They accommodate music and phone calls as well as intercom. I'm sure the stand alone version for mariners is quite similar.

    Timed Circuits

This is how ours is installed. It actuates an 80 amp solenoid to power the system.

    Timed Circuits

Square D / Schneider Electric 9050JCK46V36 series single shot style is what we use on our head. It energizes for up to 10 minutes. It is in our system as a safety in case of a seal failure, so the head doesn't run continuously. There is a similar style that can be programmed several different...

    Inverter activation

All of your outlets connected through the inverter? On my boat only select outlets are powered by the Freedom.

    Good Secure Marina, Seattle area?

Kingston, Bainbridge, and Bremerton all have marinas very close to ferry terminals. I've heard Bremerton is a bit sketchy. Bainbridge is liable to be more expensive with less availability. Port Orchard is also a reasonably short drive from the Bremerton marina and has several marinas, both...

"Water Fixer" Water Filters And Purifiers

I have a Water Fixer. It was installed by the prior owner. I think it is a worthwhile system, and the cost to recomission would be worthwhile for me. Maintenance is straightforward.

    Another video to celebrate launch!

Great color on the hull. Definitely an attractive boat. You were looking for destinations to cruise to while you get used to her, you should come visit us at Brownsville. We have a deli with beer on tap and live music many Fridays, and very competitive prices at the fuel dock.

    Interesting boats

USS Enterprise being towed away from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard this morning. She is destined to be scrapped. Just out of frame are tugs Lindsey Foss, Henry Foss, Andrew Foss, and offshore supply ship Dino Chouest.

Our first weekend in our new Camano 31

As the other posters suggested, a brace inside the hollow stanchion may be a workable solution for you. The prior owner of our boat had implemented this fix and it functions well. The only downside is that I have to lift the whole tabletop off the stanchion to remove the brace if we want to...

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

I finally made it back to the marina this morning to continue my troubleshooting. I started off by securing all power, and then pulled the Link 1000 unit off its bracket to take a peek at what was behind. Low and behold I found that the voltage sense lead had separated from the terminal and was...

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

Voltage did not drop below 14.2 V dc after 75 minutes so I shut things down and headed home. I want to try a longer power off period, or possibly a reset to factory defaults.

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

The Link 1000, which I disconnected at the Freedom 20, shows that 4.7 amps is still flowing into the battery after about 30 minutes. The threshold to transition to float is 10 amps or 1 hour according to the manual. I guess I'll have to wait patiently for anoth 30 minutes to see if voltage...

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

I have disconnected the Link 1000 and am currently monitoring voltage via dmm. After the initial 14.6 volt charge, which lasted about 10 minutes, the output has been holding steady at 14.2 V dc. It is about 50 degrees F in my engine room today so the temperature compensation should have float...

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

I secured shore power at the AC master breaker on my power distribution panel. I manually secured DC power by turning the on-service battery switch to "OFF". There was no power available to the inverter. Battery voltage does fluctuate along with the phase of charging indicated by the Link...

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

"Have you tried turning it off, and then on again?" I went down and shut everything down for about 15 minutes, and then brought power back up. The Link 1000 seemed to run normally for a bit and I got my hopes up, but they were dashed when it went back into the failure cycle. I shut off the...

    Xantrex Link 1000 problem

I noticed this morning, after going out for a cruise yesterday afternoon, that our Link 1000 battery monitor is behaving oddly. It is monitoring our 12 volt house bank and controlling a Freedom 20 inverter/charger. I also have an external voltage monitor in the system where I can independently...

    Low Coolant Temperature

I think that it is completely normal for a diesel to cool off when idling. The Perkins in our boat will drop 20 degrees when I'm not running at a cruising rpm, and the modern diesel in my pickup truck will cool from it's normal 200F to about 180-185 if it idles for a few minutes.

    Hot head

The plumbing of the hot air ducting will not be especially straight forward with our layout. The important takeaway here is that it was a simple, inexpensive solution that keeps us happy dockside. I'm not trying to solve the world's problems by plugging in a $20 space heater.

    Hot head

That is a good idea for nights spent out. For us, most of our nights aboard are spent in our own slip with shore power connected. I'll look into the feasibility of adding another piece of ducting in the future.

I think it is closer to 3 Amps. 350W/120V.

    Garbage Management Ideas

I did this last summer when we did 10 days in the San Juan Islands. I went to the local Total Wine and found several outstanding options from craft- and micro-breweries that were canned. Stone and New Belgium were two of the brands that should be widely distributed.

    Hot head

During the years and a half the Adrmiral and I have owned our PT38 one of the pending projects has been figuring out how to keep the head warm. The Espar furnace has outlets in the salon and the master's stateroom, but not enough heat bleeds over to keep midnight head calls from being very brisk...

Anyone Try Flir One For Night Vision?

I stepped out into the backyard to snap a picture. Range is out to 200 feet or so. The closest tree is about 40 feet away. Resolution seems like it would be insufficient for use while cruising. I can try to grab some different images (thermographs) if there are requests.

FLIR One iPhone Attachment for Thermal Imaging

Here you go: http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s31/using-ir-thermography-isolate-electrical-issues-29485.html Mine is the Android version. I have not tried it for distance yet, but I suspect the resolution would be a hindrance for that usage. Battery life of the unit is the biggest annoyance...
