Does a weekend live aboard make sense?

    Bam. Decision made. Easy Peasy.

Does a weekend live aboard make sense?

It does make sense and it sounds like it makes the most sense for your situation. Almost sounds like a free boat (by using the money that was going to be spent anyway on something else and fulfilling the need that that something else was going to provide). We have been doing something similar...

Unless you get lucky and find a guy that knows a guy that happens to have an extra velvet drive sitting around.

    Velvet Drive Trans rebuild

I have spoken with Seabrook in nola on two separate occasions. Both times I came away with the same impression - confident in their abilities but price will always be on the comparable high side - and prepare to be treated like an idiot. Which to be fair I am but don't like to pay to be...

    Seattle Waste Spill

I'm pretty sure nobody is arguing for "Let boaters pump their crap overboard whenever and where ever they want ?" That is a distortion and exaggeration of the argument others are making in order to make your own stance/the city or state's stance appear more reasonable. The alternative would be...

    Composting toilets

I read somewhere and have been using vinegar to stop the pee smell. And it works well. Poor some undiluted vinegar in the pee area before use and also have a spray bottle filled with a water vinegar mix that we use to spray/flush after use.

    Composting toilets

Wife and I bought the boat five years or so ago. PO installed a CHead aft and Nature’s Head fore. We have been bemoaning this decision for about 4.75 years. Finally just purchased a marine elegance bowl and will replace the CHead. Will keep the Natures Head but will only use it for urine. I do...

    Velvet Drive questions

Sorry. Just read back a couple posts and see you have a "new" transmission. May consider giving Transmission Marine a call. Not sure but there is a chance that if any of your old transmission is salvageable they may be interested in purchasing parts for future rebuilds.

    Velvet Drive questions

I had my BW VD rebuilt about two years ago by Transmission Marine in Fort Lauderdale. Only took them about a week once they got it. Very friendly and very good. Highly recommend. There is also a place in Seattle which I think was also mentioned for fabricating parts. That is accurate and I...

White exhaust smoke on a prospective boat

Also for what it is worth, I happened to be at the boat this weekend as well. Started up the engines and let them run for about thirty minutes. FL120's tend to burn some blue smoke when starting and I happened to notice that this weekend they also smoked more than normal and left a little more...

White exhaust smoke on a prospective boat

My two cents, for what they are worth. I'm currently dealing with a little white smoke out my starboard engine, coincidentally also in Nashville. Different engines FL120, but possibly related cause. I forgot that I shut off my raw water intake while overnighting on the downtown dock. On the...

    WiFI at the dock

I'm not a big tech guy, but I have done some "research" on the topic. I came across this article which I found interesting. Not being a tech guy I don't know how accurate it is but an interesting read. https://seabits.com/marina-wifi-hard/

    Dehumidifiers

I recently decided to try a dehumidifier to reduce the humidity level in my boat and I am glad I did. In fact, I don't know how I managed on the boat before the dehumidifier, it is a night and day difference. As mentioned before, the small ones don't work for what you want/need. You need a...

Diesel fuel starvation - troubleshooting steps?

Probably not the issue, but maybe will help someone at some point. I spent months tracking down a small air leak in my fuel line. I had changed the engine mounted fuel filters recently and assumed that was the issue, but it was not. As the problem got worse, I eventually noticed a very slow...

    Living aboard/ airline pilot

Or if you have your mind set on leaving Boston in the spring - you could start the Great Loop up there and spend hurricane season on the Great Lakes. Lots of airports to commute out of and assuming you're a baseball fan, lots of parks to visit - Phillies, Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays, Indians...

    Living aboard/ airline pilot

I didn't even think about cargo - that may just work. As far as security goes while at anchor, think about leaving your car parked in the woods unattended for two weeks. Probably about the same. Depending on how determined you are to stay down south, you could just do what many retirees do...

    Man Over Board

It was covered a little in the previous post, but basically cold water shock can immediately lead to death in a healthy individual. Either by instantly paralyzing muscles and/or lead to heart attack. BTW 15 C = 60 F eh https://aceboater.com/en/cold-water-shock-symptoms-treatment

My wife teaches so we have the freedom to do what you speak of in the summertime. We have yet to set off but I have given it some thoughts. I'll share the biggest sticking points I've come up with. It takes awhile to really get used to how long it takes to get places in a boat. Couple that...

    WI FI unlimited?

For those that may be curious, the wife and I are big college football fans. We start with college gameday at 8AM and stream two to three games at a time until we go to bed around 11PM. Fortunately we have land based internet at our slip. Unfortunately we don't take the boat out on football...

    Velvet Drive Trans rebuild

Recently had mine rebuilt. Wasn't cheap but found two different shops that kind of specialize in BW rebuilds. One was out in Washington and the closer one to you would be down in Ft Lauderdale called Transmission Marine. If you don't find anyone locally I highly recommend these folks...
