I would stick with Chem cleaning. The rifle brush would have to ba a .17 cal, not common. 3/16" is 0.182", very slightly larger than .17 cal, and significantly smaller than .22 cal.

I would avoid putting the exchanger (i.e. pressure drop) on the suction side of the seawater pump. I think this would reduce total seawater flow. And may also cause pump priming issues. My $0.02

What are your preferences, and opinions on bilge paints. I don't really think I want to gel-coat. Interlux, Pettit, or Jamestown total boat bilge coatings? Advantages, disadvantages of each. They all appear to be fine products. Thanks

Update: It appears that my identification of RTV silicone was incorrect. It appears that the previous sealant was 4200, or polysulfide. It cleaned up well, was semi-soft with a slight hydrocarbon odor. I ended up using 5200 where the actuator attached to the transom, and where the bolts went...
