    Question(s) for older boaters...

Crazy market It took us 6 hours to sell our OA390 sundeck last December. The buyers had surveyed 3 vessels prior to finding ours. We thought perhaps we had missed the market at the time but broker said sales were, and are still going strong, there just were not very many good vessels on the...

    Changing Cummins 6BTA 5.9 Thermostat

Good question. Been reading Tony’s posts n Seaboard Marine site about BTA engines and it makes sense to run a bit cooler when running the engines at the upper end of their HP ratings. Cummins infact puts 160 thermostats in their newer engines. I do know that heat can cook an engine pretty...

    Changing Cummins 6BTA 5.9 Thermostat

Going to put SBMar 160 thermostats in my 6BTA 5.9s. Should I drain the coolant from the expansion tank before taking out old thermostat. Since the thermostat is lower than tank I’m wondering if I’m going to have a mess when I take the thermostat housing off or f fluid is mostly trapped and...

    Boat Ownership - Ca$h Deal - or - Loaned $$$

My union dues worked right up until the time the company threw our contract out and the bankruptcy court took it all away. Found out the in the good ole US of A a contract ain’t worth the paper it’s written on. The good new is we have a great boat and are enjoying life. It was a 70% loan.

    Total Control

Just like in aviation That’s already happened in aviation. With so much technology available, younger pilots are taught to use it all the time and older pilots are, well older and thinning out in the ranks. The art of stick and rudder is going away. It will happen in boats too. We are docked...

    Communications While Docking

We use EarTech ultralites and love them. Never have to raise your voices and always are in touch, even if just a quick, all’s well, and I always know when we are ready to leave the dock or the lines are on and I can leave the helm. Highly recommend them

    Refrigerator search and questions.

Thanks for the replies. Our installation has not changed and vents are clear and clean. No grime or dust on rear coils and fan is running below compressor section so I don't think a heat problem has suddenly appeared. We have defrosted but will try one more time for longer before ordering a new...

    Back into the good life.

Hello all. We've sold the home and are back living aboard for the second time. This time we have diesels instead of sails so back into the learning mode. Looking forward to getting involved learning and maybe even contributing along the way. We have an Ocean Alexander 390 so not technically a...

    Refrigerator search and questions.

Our 14 year old Norcold DE0061 is giving up the ghost. Freezer works great, but the refer is gasping to maintain 48 degrees. We've tried all the web fixes about fans, door seals, etc. and we are going to buy a new unit. I can get a direct replacement Norcold, but also looking at a Isotherm 195...
