Recommendation for buyer's broker in the Southeast

I would definitely agree that having an agent that you bring to the table is important and it doesn’t cost you anything. My experience with Ron Housman with United Yacht was very good and I would recommend him.

    Thrusters Not needed??

Having many years of experience in a cruising sailboat, moving to a mainship 49 was different. Fly bridge with canvas made the boat handle like a sailboat without a keel. The addition of a thruster was a great investment. I only have great things to say about Florida Thrusters.

    Overnights in Long Island Sound

I’ve said a couple of boats back from eastern Connecticut late October and early November. Weather conditions could be cooler/cold. Lots of great marinas On both sides of the Sound. DEFINITELY GET AN ELDRIDGE. At your cruising speed you want the current with you. Plan to be at city island...

    Overhead Salon and Bathroom Lights

I have a main ship 47(97) and think that I have the same rims. I had difficulty twisting them but found that using a filter wrench allows for easier gripping.

    Fancy Leather Boat Hooks

Fender hooks I prefer not to tie fender lines to the top of rails as it tends to increase the leverage. I much prefer to tie fender lines to base of the stanchion.

    Repairing soft decks

Interesting thread. Curious if after injecting the material would inserting the appropriate size wood screws into the hole confine the material and get better propagation of the material in the areas of deterioration?

    Under mount swim platform ladders

I had the same issue/concern regarding the Handhold/ grab point when I replaced my ladder underneath my swim platform. My solution, that has worked out well, was to install two pop up cleats. The release buttons are easy to locate and the released cleat is comfortable to grab. When reset the...

    Protecting the dog

On our previous sailboat we used netting along the lifelines for our kids and pets. Works well but would periodically need to be replaced because of appearance or age. On our mainship 47 we had plexiglass 1/2 doors made to keep our dog off of the walk around deck but allow her to roam the aft...

    Rocna 10 or 15?

Its 11-12 pounds. Just put a couple of gallons of water on the bow and see what happens. In the dark of night, with the wind blowing I don’t think that you will be saying the smaller anchor would be better.

    Hurricane Lines?

While the obvious apparent problem is chaff, I believe that the research shows that heat building up where the line bends causing the individual fibers to burn. Akin to cutting the line, one strand at a time.

    That was not planned...

I’ve had a similar experience and thank goodness no one was hurt. My experience was with a new to me boat, a few months post survey, which included an inspection of the system. The failure occurred while at the dock with the crane secured. There was a loud bang. Upon inspection the SS cable had...

I was also informed by a CG AUX inspector that the expired flares had to be marked and stored in a separate container away from the current ( up to date) flares.

    1985 Detroits 4-71 2300 hours

Hello Dale. I’ve DD 6-71’s on my 97 mainship. PO (original) did work for Mobile did strongly recommend that I stay with the mobile delvack 40 that he had always used. I didn’t want to change or mix oils so I have stayed with it. Advanced auto carries it or available online.

    Backup cameras

I also have an issue with visuals off the stern. I added a back up camera from advanced auto parts. It’s wireless. Supplied 12v power from stern nav light and power for the display at the helm by using a 12 v cigarette adapter. Simple, cheap and effective. Only disadvantage is the size of the...

    Fresh water dockside port

Over the summer I had a problem with the dockside fresh water port. When connected to the dockside water we found that the water pressure would diminish to a trickle, almost nothing, and then return to almost normal water pressure. When I used boat water system with fresh water pump water...
