    Mainship Pilot 34 - Play/Looseness in Helm

Doug… I had the same experience last year with my 2006 Mainship 34T. We bled the system twice and have had no problems since.

Boats that give normal liveaboards a bad rep

Not sure I know the answer to that question. The cleanest live-aboards I’ve seen were those owned by folks that maintained their boats like I think most folks like to maintain their homes. Keeping a live-aboard boat clean only requires soap, water, a little elbow grease, and pride.

Boats that give normal liveaboards a bad rep

"If I owned a marina" Back in 2018, after staying in marinas from Charleston, SC to Hampton, VA, I did a blog post entitled, "If I Owned a Marina." https://cruisingtheicw.blog//?s=If+I+Owned+A+Marina&search=Go It all comes down to 'first impressions being lasting impressions,' whether...

    Holding tank lesson!

Cleaning The Holding Tank From Don Casey's column in BoatUS Magazine: "How empty the tank becomes is a function of the location of the pump-out connection at the tank. If it is on the side, some residue is unavoidable. The best you can do is flush the tank to dilute what is left. If, however...

    Holding tank lesson!

Use old fashioned granular Tide Soon after buying our 2006 Mainship 34T, in 2016, I had our Vacuflush serviced. Afterwards, I asked the tech what he recommended to add to the holding tank. He replied, “Tide, but only the granulated, it works the best.” Ever since, I’ve added 1-cup of...

How Much Smoke and Oil From a Diesel Exhaust?

How much smoke... I’m not a diesel tech or surveyor, but I’d be concerned, too. I’d definitely be getting a knowledgeable diesel tech check it out, and have main engine and generator oil analyzed. A couple of years ago, I was getting white smoke from mine. Turned out to be an electronics...

Norfolk north through the Chesapeake Bay -- what not to miss?

FIY, we learned that on the bay, you need to be prepared to spend a couple of "unexpected" nights in a port or two, thanks to some vicious winds that can hit the bay. The watermen on the crab boats seem to hate winds out of the south and southeast the worst.

Norfolk north through the Chesapeake Bay -- what not to miss?

We always spend at least one night at the Municipal Piers in Hampton, VA before going out onto the bay. Last year we really enjoyed a couple of nights in Cape Charles, before going on up to Onancock for a couple more nights. Stayed at the town Wharf and simply enjoyed the little town, so I...

How often do you need your lower helm?

My little Mainship 34T has upper and lower. I prefer the upper, but as someone wrote in an earlier post, the lower is great in wet or cold weather -- and I would add, in HOT weather when no breeze is blowing. A couple of years ago I -- not by choice -- discovered the lower helm seemed calmer...

    CaptainT UK Hello

Congrats on the new Hardy - and joing the Forum Congrats on the new Hardy, and welcome to the Trawler Forum! While our wakes will not be crossing, I do love your native land. Used to travel to London several times annually, and really enjoyed a few days in Brighton -- though the...

Do you need to buy marine/Rv toilet paper?

Mmm... Curious, real curious. Mmmm, so if you don't use bare hands, where do you put the paper? Asking for a friend :socool:

Do you need to buy marine/Rv toilet paper?

Peggie... We've been using Scott's since the day we bought the boat. Last summer a marina friend mentioned the brand he uses, and suggested we try the glass of water test. It only took a few minutes for our Scott's to outperform the brand he no longer uses! We use Scott's at home and on the...

    Newbie Needs Purchase Advice

Mainship 350, 390, or 34T Steve and Kelly... In 2016 my "Admiral" and I faced the same dilemma. After a lot of conversations with other boat owners and our buyer's agent, we decided on Mainship because of their molded staircase to the bridge, rather than a ladder, and we had decided on single...

    This is an interesting deal

You took the words right out of my mouth! Could not agree more! No matter what the boat or price, I have to be able to get out of bed without climbing over my bride. Must also be able to make the bed without standing on my head. As for that “tuna tower” looking upper helm, my dog, “Kate the...

Decision: A single or two engines

Single screw vs. twin screw Not saying not to buy twins, but as the buyer's agent that we used said, twin engines and twin heads can double the cost of maintenance. As for the Mainship 350/390, that's what I started out looking for -- until I read a review of a Mainship 34T, when they...

Cargile Cutter Cruisers Okay, I realize this is an older thread, but having owned a Cargile Cutter Cruiser, I had to respond. The late Allen Cargile, of Nashville, TN, made his living designing and building houseboats that were once very popular on the rivers and TVA lakes of Tennessee. I...
