Why Millennials are not Buying Boats

Thread(s) Monitoring I don't understand this sites thread administration and monitoring, pls help! A monitor early on states replies off topics will be removed, then I read page after page of the posters not even mentioning boats any more, let alone boat ownership? So I take it staying on topic...

    First Cruise: North or South?

Ski; on the slower type cruise I wonder if you could still get up at sunrise, do your boat checks, but instead of up anchoring and go maybe you could jump in the dingy and go fishing, look for pirates, photograph great things you see, etc. Replace boat go with dingy go?

I give you criteria, you select the Boat!

To all posters here, Thanks for all the input! You have given me a lot to think about. I wish to offer a public apology to Richard (Wxx3), sorry I was such a chowder head! Am sending off an inquiry to the owners of the diesel duck clan for info on the different classes of ducks. Let you all know...

What level do i choose? Based on the advice received, seems like Seahorse Marine is top of the list. However, there seems to be 4 levels of lrc trawlers at Seahorse: super diesel duck, diesel duck, coot and the new puffin. All but the super can be had in 38ft, the coot and puffin can be had in...

I give you criteria, you select the Boat!

answers David and Sunchaser: my best answers to post #5: age isn't important to me, seaworthiness and reliability are; fuel consumption is very important, I want to severe ties to the land and be able to go Anywhere, definately to the far northern seas so will end up in arctic areas that at...

Just checked seahorse marine, their site states they're still building the 35 coot plus an updated 38 coot. Man are they great looking boats!

I give you criteria, you select the Boat!

Questions I have been thinking in the 32 to 38 ft range up to now. I notice numerous suggestions in the 40 plus foot range tho. I know from experience it can be done, But, is it recommended for a 100% single hander to select boats in the 40's, I honestly don't know. I'm surprised no Willards...

To all responders thanks for your kind responses! On the bad weather question,, I used to go out in bad weather on the Great lakes when everyone else was coming in, cause I think its fun to pit me and a boat against waves and current, still do. Hence my seeking advice on good all weather...

I give you criteria, you select the Boat!

Thanks to all but one Thanks to all but one poster!! I really appreciate your thoughtful responses. Boats suggested are all good candidates. I do have one question, the Nordic 42 linked has a 635 HP cummins engine. Why on earth would anyone need 635 horses on a 42? Beats me that's for sure! For...

I give you criteria, you select the Boat!

Criteria: must be capable in seas up to but below named storms, will be single handed, min range 750 nm, will be a liveaboard, rarely see a marina, interior must be a lot of wood, like flybridge but not required, costs with required upgrades to be under half mil. Hint, two on shortlist: Willard...

    Help with Repower Question

Not slow reving but slow rpm. Graphs/spec sheets suggest cruise normally at 960-1200 rpm, that's slow rpm to me.

    Help with Repower Question

David and Pack Mule- thank you for the response! If I'm reading spec sheets correctly the Beta 85 is of the new breed of diesels appearing to be at least 200 lbs lighter than the perkins m90 and the new m92. I subscribe to the rationale that the slow rpm big pounds per hp blocks are the best...

    Help with Repower Question

Hi All! I find comparing diesel engines very very confusing! Specifically, in planning a Repower of an existing perkins 4-236 would I be better off getting a new warranty 4-236 or going with perkins new replacement for the 4-236 which is the M92B? Help pls. Thanks in advance. P.S. . I Have no...

    Much hesitation in posting this

my boat buying decision has finalized down to two models; monk 36 and great harbor 37 flybridge. This is firm. However, I am completely at a loss at price difference in the decision making in that monks , good ones too, can be had at 75k while the n37 at 12 yrs old start at 270k. Even if money...

    which boat?

Heartfelt thanks to the 2 skippers who took the time to try and help me, even tho my initial post left a lot to be desired. Am surprised no one else commented on the feasibility of solo cruising a trawler with no pilot house doors. Maybe it's cause the two main helmsman chiefs are here on this...

Apologies to all. This poor dumb child has too many trawlers running around in my head. All are correct in their statements, the boat I should of said was my heart's choice is the new Helmsman 31.
