    Hudson River Stops

Kingston Hudson River Maritime Museum and dock. Can reserve on Dockwa. Great location in old part of town. If you can get your air draft below 17ft try the Lake Champlain Canal. Lowest bridge was 17ft. Lake Champlain is wonderful.

    Marina Costs along ICW

While we can usually find decent anchorages, there are some stretches of the ICW where big tidal ranges with the resultant big currents make it worth the price of a tie up just for peace of mind overnight. We probably average one night of marina for three nights on the hook.

    David crane

Davit crane Thanks, very useful. Your photo is actually of a sister ship to mine. We have a beefier crane-3 1/2 diameter steel with exoskeleton at curve. I’m hoping to raise and lower a 650 lb RIB. Thinking I’ll use a pulley block, at least initially, to spread the load and not stress the...

    Hyatt fantail owners

Hyatt Fantail We have Ancient Mariner, a 1999 Voyager, possibly the last one shipped to the US? Based at Hammock Beach Marina, Palm Coast and Pax River Naval Air Station marina during the summer. Love this boat!

    David crane

Yes, I was asking about the crane (I challenge you to enter d a v i t and not have the site spell correct you) It is a pipe design, apparently steel since it shows a little rust, 4” diameter going thru the top deck and into the main deck, with the added backbone rail also in steel. The winch...

    David crane

Does anyone have a gouge on how to figure how much weight a deck crane can handle? I have a Hyatt Fantail 50 and there is not a lot of data available on this model since only 11 were imported to the US and that was twenty years ago.

    Torqeedo electric outboards versus gas

Have had two Torqueedos over the years. Liked the light weight,no gasoline on bord, good built in gps for range remaining info. Did not like: easy to sheer the prop cotter pin by barely touching sand/mud bottom, on/off button failed on both motors at some point, range was pretty limited, not a...

    e Bike On Board?

E bikes We have two Addmotor folding e-bikes with fat tires for beach use. Absolutely love them. Going on two thousand miles and no issues. M500 model available on line for around $1500 delivered. Whichever ebike you choose, get plenty of battery power. These go about four hours on a...

Where would you base your boat

Hammock Beach We stopped at Hammock Beach Marina in Palm Coast on 3 Nov for “ a month or so”. Four days later bought a condo in Yacht Harbor Village. Ideal location on the ICW with a full resort hotel, beaches, golf, etc. Two bedroom condo was in mid 200’s, three bedrooms from low 300’s...

    Regarding boat bikes...

Ebike laws We got wheel chair handicap stickers on ours, so they are “power assisted mobility devices” under federal law, which trumps any state or local restrictions. They are legal on any public access trail or highway.

    Okeechobee

Thinking about a January trip through the canal from Stewart to Lake Okachobee to the West Florida Coast. Anyone been this way since last summers red tide mess?

    Backwards props ??

It’s much more important on airplanes, but as you go to high power and the deck angle increases, the downward moving blades dig in more. If the props are CW on port and CCW on starboard, the center of thrust will move inboard as you add power. Opposite effect if the props are reversed, so...

FL Liveaboard (on the hook) insurance?

You get what you pay for... I had the unfortunate experience of having my Hunter Passage (sloop) catch fire and sink three years ago. I was insured through Offshore Risk Management. They were amazing. Very professional, paid the claim within 30 day’s and very nice about it. Probably not the...

    Another battery question

6v system Not a charging problem. We put in a new 100 amp Balmar. Alternator with smart regulator. Batteries hold twelve volts for at least 12 hours(haven’t tried for more than that). Just seem to indicate 12volts as soon as charging stops. Thought it might be a quirk with 6volt pairs. Not...

    Another battery question

Just put in four pairs of six volt batteries. Great for long stays at anchor. Only strange thing is that bank voltage drops to 12v almost as soon as charging stops (shore, alternator, or generator.). This is with sophisticated smart chargers. Old 12v system used to start at 13.5+\- and slowly...

    Outer Banks Distances

Outer Banks I notice no one has mentioned a stop at Hatteras. Any particular reasons not to go there too?

    ICW North Carolina

Has anyone tried skipping the Alligator River-Pungo River route and gone through Pamlico Sound West of the outer banks then cutting across to Oriental? Not much in the cruising guides that I can find.
