Need Some Advice From South Louisiana People and Beyond.

Man I have been pretty busy at work and when I get home, I don't want to look at any type of screens. I love Grand Isle. Grew up there in the summers working at my Paw Paw's marina and shrimp shed. I've thought about Madisonville but I think the commute would kill me. Might have to wait...

Thanks for turning me on to these boats. They are gorgeous and might fit the bill for me.

    The Shrimpless Shrimper...

I've looked at the old shrimp boats and they are dirt cheap. The wooden ones made in Louisiana are made from cypress. There was one for sale for 35k.

I don't mind a smaller boat. Just don't want to be claustrophobic. I had a pretty big room on a drilling rig but after awhile the walls would close in. Looking forward to meeting y'all. I don't mind going smaller. The most room I need is in the galley and closets for hanging clothes. Thanks...

Nice looking boat. Once I find a place to dock, I just might do that.

Thanks John. Really good tip on looking at Craigslist. Would have never have thought about that. I've kind of narrowed it down but, like you said, I need to start getting on boats and getting a feel for them.

Oh Boy I am in Love

I remember seeing that boat for years and it wasn't there anymore. No clue who owned it but they had good taste.

That is one gorgeous boat. I haven't really paid attention about the yards Lake Pontchartrain but most boat yards on the bayou have the rail system.

I found an old wooden boat restorer and builder in Alabama and will contact him tomorrow to get some general info. They originally built the Biloxi trawlers out of wood. They have some for sale that I am tempted to buy and convert into a cruising boat. The have a hug back deck and are perfect...

Thanks for all the info. It will help me make a good decision on the feasibility of owning a wood boat.

Oh boy that is expensive. To further expand on your knowledge of wooden boats. Are all fasteners built the same? Are there some fasteners better than others? Before I proceed, I just want to say, I don't doubt what you told me but I still see the old wooden luggers being used by oyster...

Oh Boy I am in Love

Everyone says how much wooden boat coast to maintain but no one actually puts a price. 2000k a month? 1000k a month? We still have wooden boat guys down here because the old oyster luggers still going strong.

That might be the best if I can't find anything closer. The commute back and forth might kill me though. I tend to work some crazy hours as a small business owner. But it still might be the best bet. You think they would get mad if I just tide up to the USS Kidd? Hats are on the top of my...

Man that sucks. It would have been a good economic boon for that area. Louisiana isn't really that friendly to boaters.
