Yet another fresh water pump thread…

I purchased and installed the Marco, feeds the flybridge ice maker with no issue. The water flow is good, the pressure is slightly less than the old pump, but not enough to be problematic. It’s not silent, but also not noisy, and the sound is more of a whine than anything. It’s been in there...

Yet another fresh water pump thread…

The Amazon pump is rated for 6gpm and 70PSI, although I take those numbers with a grain of salt. Based on the feedback I’ve gotten here, and other threads I have read, I am going to go for the Marco UP3/e. Hopefully it lives up to the hype. 👍

Yet another fresh water pump thread…

My trawler came with a Shurflo water pump (unsure of the model), that was incredibly loud and lacking in pressure and water flow. I have been searching for a good replacement for some time now, and in the meantime I have resorted to a cheap Amazon RV pump that is both quiet, and has good...

Help. Ford Lehman Dies at worst of times

It's the second law of boating... anytime your engine dies will always be the least opportune time. Good luck with it! we chased an issue with one of our Perkins randomly quitting for over a year. turned out to be a minor air leak in a copper fuel line... minor enough that it wasn't a fuel...

Newer Furuno Chartplotter connection to Older Raymarine Autopilot

That was the functionality I was after. I agree that the most useful function of the autopilot is heading hold, but I did also want it to follow a track. It’s connected now, and functions as expected.

Newer Furuno Chartplotter connection to Older Raymarine Autopilot

Hey Chris, I didn't realize this was a feature unique to the ST6001, but it is a pass through input for one 0183 device. The course computer has two 0183 connections as well. I connected it up last night, and it is receiving appropriate commands from the Furuno.

Newer Furuno Chartplotter connection to Older Raymarine Autopilot

Well, my local electronics guy got back to me right after I asked the hive mind here... I am told White to the positive and Blue to the negative.

Newer Furuno Chartplotter connection to Older Raymarine Autopilot

I have a Furuno, GP1971F, which has both NMEA 2000 and NMEA0183 connections. I would like to connect it to my older Raymarine S3G autopilot. The NMEA 0183 cable pin out for the Furuno, and the NMEA input for the Raymarine are attached here. I’d love some input on which two out of the Furuno...

    Perkins engines

Good morning, welcome to the forum. I found this workshop manual here on the forum, hopefully it helps. https://www.trawlerforum.com/resources/perkins-6-354-workshop-manual.64/ I also have a couple of Perkins T6.354M's in my 1985 Hershine. They're great engines, very simple and long lasting...

    Abandoning Seacocks/Through Hulls

Thanks for all the great feedback, I can’t cap them off, so will use a hose and plug, and will remove them and glass them over at the next haul out.

    Abandoning Seacocks/Through Hulls

Thanks Commodave, that’s what I was thinking too. We may reuse some of them, but, once we’re sure, we’ll glass the others up at our next haul out. We’ve also switched to fresh water only flush, so we have 4 seacocks to eliminate.

    Abandoning Seacocks/Through Hulls

We are redoing our waste system which currently has y valves at each head, that allow direct discharge overboard. In the course of the refit, we will be removing these valves and so the associated seacock will be no longer in use. Short of a haul out and removal/fiberglassing the holes, what’s...

    What Would You Have Done?

I think it’s easy to sit here and second guess, those controllers scare the crap out of me. Makes me glad for the simple cables and double helms on my current boat. That said, on a previous boat, a small Ranger Tug, I was reversing in a tight anchorage when my shift cable snapped. My first...

    What are High Engine Hours??

We have 4569/4581 on the Perkins 6.354s in our boat. They run like a top and we do an engine oil analysis at every oil change. Every time, the analysis looks basically the same. What will concern me is if it comes back markedly different. I don’t think I’m being overly optimistic to expect...

    Water in the Bilge twice

Can’t disagree with fixing the pumps… but I sure wouldn’t be tasting my bilge water anytime soon! ?

Travelling from a Canadian port to another Canadian port through US waters

Thanks for the replies! Thanks for all the replies, this isn’t our regular cruising area and I was curious more than anything. Appreciate the input!

Travelling from a Canadian port to another Canadian port through US waters

I’m sure this has been asked and answered before but I can’t find it. I’m Canadian, if I want to travel from a Canadian Gulf Island to Victoria, BC, the auto route sends me through US waters. Obviously I can plan a different route, but I’m wondering what the requirements are if I just accept...

    Stern Thruster Installation Cost?

Thrusters We just installed Sideshift bow and stern thrusters on our 42 foot Hershine, and I can say, so far it’s a joy to have them. My numbers below are in Canadian dollars… $4900 plus taxes per unit 2x AGM batteries for each unit @ $300 each Assorted wire approx. $600 I did the electrical...

    Spar Poly over Varnish?

Good day, I’ve tried to find an answer in the countless posts on marine brightwork finishes but haven’t found one that answers my question specifically, so here goes… I have a “new to me” boat with brightwork in overall good shape. I want to topcoat, and assume the existing finish is spar...

    Furuno wireless radar

We have the DRS4W radar on our boat and use it with TZ iBoat. We’ve also set our AIS up to overlay on the iBoat charts. Works great overall for the coastal cruising we do here in BC.

    Rewiring the whole boat

When it comes to cable management my preference is to use Velcro cable ties. There’s a variety of products out there to work with the system, and it’s easy to add wires or make changes down the road. It also has the added benefit of not pinching the wires like the wraps do.

    Loose Stanchion Screws

That’s also a fantastic idea… I like the non rotting aspect of the solution.

    Loose Stanchion Screws

It is just a few, and mostly in the area where the side boarding gate opens. For obvious reasons it gets the most flex there. I do like the idea of the threaded inserts, I think those, bedded in epoxy would seal the hole and hold well at the same time. Thanks to everyone for the great input!

    Loose Stanchion Screws

Good thought on the screws. Would certainly be the easiest solution.

    Loose Stanchion Screws

I could do that for sure, but I also want to seal against water intrusion in the future, which might cause the same to happen again.
