Hi-star 55' This also has a modified - V! I typically have been leaning towards semi-displacement...but my goal is coastal cruising...down to bahamas, bvi, etc...would typically be spending most time at anchor.

Anyone know anything about the Hi-Star brand? I know they went out of business and owner opened a new brand a while later (name escapes me). But, aside from that, I can't find much on the build quality. Particularly, the hull and windows. Most seem to have CAT 3208 TAs with ~3000hrs or so...

Lots of incredible thoughts. Thank you. What are people's view on Island Gypsy? Some out there are pretty reasonable. Have Lehmans. And, from the photos on the hard, look like the running gear is above the full length keel. Hulls? Build quality? Good boat for a DIY refit?

Any good NA yacht brands that have great reputations that might in my price range? I like the saberline trawlers, but they are well outside my price range. :(

Thank you for your reply. So, I have a list with obvious things, like efficient, sundeck, etc. However, what is harder for me are the less obvious things that SHOULD be on the list...like what are the things that make is a safe vessel in the first place? I want those. :) Like is solid...
