Equivalent to 38 barrels of diesel... she must have been half fuel tank! But she is a beauty.

    Coaster 23 by Lovett/Chudley

You're right, I jumped to the wrong confusion..... Chuchi is further north and does indeed head Arctic-wards. I had Trembleur and Takla lakes in my head, which are directly navigable from Fort St. James and Stuart Lake. About 180 miles through the 3 lakes. You must have driven through FSJ and...

    Coaster 23 by Lovett/Chudley

Such a rare boat, the Coaster 23, and yet there is one for sale in Ontario: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-motorboat/ottawa/coaster-23-foot-trawler/1520305265

    Coaster 23 by Lovett/Chudley

Thank you Eric. All those canoes sound like a lot of work. A canoe is something I would put an outboard on. I guess a small hydrological correction is in order: the waters you would have paddled, through Stuart Lake and its neighbouring lakes, end up, via the Fraser River, at Vancouver...

That conversion, to outboards, is an obscenity. Your Orca is a great looking boat. Please don't convert her to outboards!

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

Cruise ships have seen worse times. Notably when the Romans started to chain the passengers to their benches. Nowadays they get chained to the bars.

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

I agree. It is people in their 30s and 40s with heavy debt and marginal skills, also one-person businesses struggling along month to month, who face hard times. Around us, there is no real panic, but stores are quieter, and the demographic I see in largest numbers are old people who seem not...

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

Presumably today is not forever, and cruise ships will be in demand again, one day. But the only way that scenario could have fitted your theory is if the captain (who was reportedly talking to his owners during the incident) was attempting to have his boat sunk by the Venezuelans. Then...

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

It is at least a 2 gun ship from the attached screencap. But they had no intention of sinking it, just hijacking it and shaking down the owners for the odd million bucks or two. I hope the Resolute captain gets a nice fat check discreetly deposited in his account by grateful owners. But I...

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

The fact that no video from the Resolute has surfaced yet makes me wonder if they might not have done something a little naughty like changing course slightly and overwhelming the cutter. I think that would be a difficult temptation to resist under those circumstances, and with an ice breaker...

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

I think I remember reading 830 metres. Maduro is saying it was unfair, like a huge bully attacking a young lad. Heavily armed young lad.

Naval Patrol Boat Takes on Cruise Ship

Nice video, presumably by the Spanish shipyard Navantía showing the Naiguatá at her best.... on the surface that is. Who would want to mess with that? I wonder if that white stripe under the forward gun is a pull tab to open her up quickly? I would imagine a change of name is on the cards...

Tell us something about you that sounds FAKE

I died at age 4 in the world's smallest republic, and recall it quite clearly. My parents and I were crossing northern Italy in summer 1957. We were actually in San Marino, the world's smallest, and one of the oldest, republics, which is entirely within Italy. No borders except for road signs...

Thanks for the great link, rsn48. I shall enjoy watching those. Great to read a post by a non-Philistine!

Lawsuit against Wake Boats in Oregon

I left England in 1986. I spent some 21 years of my life in Oregon, then moved to Canada. Americans have never understood the British sense of humour. Quite often that's a blessing, because it means we can get away with a lot. Please re-read my post and see if you can come to a different...

A Monk where angels might fear to tread

By chance there is another one for sale. This is a 1952 in good condition for CAN$44,000, which is about US$33,000. So, infinitely cheaper than the one above, even if it were free: https://vancouver.craigslist.org/nvn/boa/d/north-vancouver-1952-monk-diesel/7079455395.html

A Monk where angels might fear to tread

He isn't, but I would have said, after browsing through a lot of the 276 pages, that Hendo's Randall 35 Cray Boat started out with no more promise, and look what he's accomplished...

Was he Canadian? There's not many of us up here. I can ask my neighbour if he knows him.

Lawsuit against Wake Boats in Oregon

Nothing wrong with wake boats, just like there are no bad dogs. It's always the owners who are the problem. And of course all those annoying people who do not own a wake boat and feel like they should be able to enjoy a quiet day out on the water. Killjoys, those folks.

A Monk where angels might fear to tread

Looks like the old Monks have no admirers here. I've seen some neat examples of the postwar ones.
