Synthetic oil to help cure blue smoke?

Thanks for the reply. We’ll check the valve stems tomorrow when reinstalling the injectors. The WoT on this engine is 3300 rpm. I plan to run it full throttle when install complete. I think you are correct with water getting into the engine at some point. After talking to PO he said he always...

Synthetic oil to help cure blue smoke?

Hello, My 2000 Mainship Pilot 34 has started emitting more blue smoke than I am comfortable with. Yamnar 6LYA-STE Pulled the injectors, they were showing rust. Not good. Did a compression test on the cylinders. 200-250. Again not good. Added oil to cylinders, repeat compression test, 400+. I...

Mainship Pilot 34 House Battery Addition

David, You were able to get batteries in the aft sole? The access hatch is not great, and the center line storage has the shaft there, the port and starboard side are pretty hard to get to. Impressive on your part. I think I will go with something easier to get at.

Mainship Pilot 34 House Battery Addition

Hello people of the forum and fellow Mainship owners I am adding a house battery bank to the boat, currently there is a single 8D for the engine start, house usage and thruster. We also have a group 24 for generator start. We plan to spend more time away this year and want to add a separate...

    Stern tie questions

Hey everybody, TF comes through again! I appreciate all the responses, and I got the info I was looking for. Now to put that extra bit of knowledge to use.

    Stern tie questions

I've been pouring over the Dreamspeaker Gulf Island book and a few of the interesting places recommend a stern tie. Just thought, the more info I have the better.

    Stern tie questions

This will be our third year on the boat an we plan on doing some extended cruising. The last two years have just been mainly going to marinas, and using mooring balls, there has some anchoring, but not much. This year we plan to change that. We are reasonably comfortable anchoring the boat, but...

    Re-bed screws under swim step

Yes, I have used that product before, though it was a while ago. Thanks for helping out. Appreciate it.

    Re-bed screws under swim step

Thanks Comodave, The repair is on the underside of the swim step (or is it swim grid??) which is out of the water, except when running above 5 knots. There are 4 supports holding the step up each with 4 screws screwed into the underside of the step. Bolting would require drilling thought the...

    Re-bed screws under swim step

With the warm summer water I was swimming the boat and doing some under water checks. I noticed a couple screws were coming loose on my swim step support. I have removed them and want to re-install. There is a fair bit of water going to hit this area while under way. What is the best filler to...

    Gas or electric dinghy outboard

We bought a Torqueedo this spring. So far so good. My wife had trouble starting the mercury 6HP we had and suggested electric. Saw it on sale at the boat show, done deal. So quiet, so much nicer. Yes, it could have more power, but cruising around an anchorage, silently, is pretty cool.

    Considering Pilot 34 Purchase

Thanks for the pix. I really like the radar tower and the added handholds it gives when going forward. Dare I ask (roughly) the cost?

Weaver Davit winch or crank question

All good thoughts, thanks. Our block and tackle is on the gunwale, will look to see if I can move it higher up. The Weaver rods are also a good thought. Much appreciated everyone.

Weaver Davit winch or crank question

Dave, Thanks for the reply. The SeaWise system at the time was a fair bit more expensive, hence the built in hand crank. Weaver systems have incorporated that into new models. Mine doesn't have the built in convenience. Ewan

Weaver Davit winch or crank question

Hello Forum people, I am utilizing a Weaver Davit system to hold my West Marine inflatable on my swim step. The PO had a simple block and tackle made up to bring the dinghy vertical and attach to the boat. He did the attachment point at the oar lock. The oak lock is starting to tear under the...

    Considering Pilot 34 Purchase

We own a 2000 MS Pilot 34 with canvas top. Single engine Yanmar, with bow thruster. Had it for just over a year. I'm 6'2", I can get in the engine compartment, but its tight. A twin engine, not a chance. Change zincs, impeller, alternator belt? Don't know how you would do it, way too tight. I...

Which is the best dinghy ?

I too have a 34 mainship Pilot. I have a 9' West Marine inflatable on a Weaver Davit system. I would prefer the Seawise system, but the weaver came with the boat and its fine. I just replaced my 6 Hp outboard with a new Torqueedo. Much lighter and easier to get the dinghy up and down. Plus my...

    Mainship Pilot 34 Holding tank

Well then, engine removal an option eh? Sounds fun! I think some research on the Vacuflush website to look at tank sizes, a little crawling around with a measuring tape and a phone call to the rep is in order. If I'm stuck with what I have, I guess fire up the macerator and open the sea cock...

    Mainship Pilot 34 Holding tank

Under the cockpit? Interesting. My first thought is, that would be very challenging retrofit on the 34 Pilot, a small space and a lot of longer hose runs.

    Mainship Pilot 34 Holding tank

Thanks, appreciate the response. I'll try to find the Vacuflush dealer/tech in town, and get their opinion. The engine room is tight in that area, adding a separate generator might make some engine maintenance tricky. If I can keep it one unit I will. Our boat was originally from Florida, the...

    Mainship Pilot 34 Holding tank

I own a 2000 34' Mainship Pilot. The previous owner installed a new holding tank and vacuflush head. Works fine, but a 10 gallon holding tank was installed, we are finding that it is too small. The tank is an all in one vacuum tank/holding tank Any there any other Mainship Pilot owners out...
