Water pump GPM and brands question/recommendations

Late to the discussion, but my Shurflo Water Pump plus same backup ( 5900-0211 Smart Sensor Marine Pump 13.6v 5.7GPM ) both recently died in quick succession. They had a bad reputation. My research took me to the RV world, and I bought a REMCO 55AQUAJET-ARV, 5.3 GPM, sensor shutoff at 56...

    Lead/concrete in bow

I calculate that that the weight I'm adding is : two AGM 31s (130 lb), displaced water (40 lbs), Lewmar 250 TT motor plus gearbox plus tube (110 lb). Total is about 280 lbs, versus 390 lbs removed. Here's the kicker, that empty forward water tank holds 125 gal as does the empty one just...

    Lead/concrete in bow

Success! Success! Let me share status… we are just about to install the tube (that's the easy part). And thanks for all the Input! Here's what we did… we used a rotary hammer in chisel mode to remove the steel/concrete. We outlined the cut with a 4 in grinder with diamond masonry wheel...

    Lead/concrete in bow

Thanks all for the ideas… I feel ready for round two. Honestly I was a bit down. The ballast will be necessary as I feel the boat level is correct. I've been assuming it was lead in the aggregate (the yard told me that too). Steel was mentioned above, so I checked some pieces with a...

    Lead/concrete in bow

1984 Marine Trader 50, We were about to install a bow thruster, and found a large poured lead/concrete fill in the forepeak below a fiberglassed cover. Drilled down at least 9 inches and all solid. I assume that the lead/concrete mixture was poured for weight and balance during construction...

My boat "leaks" current in new marina… yikes

I'm going to take a hard look at my entire electrical system. I have two Raritan converters, and no inverter, so they will only charge my two 12V battery banks off shore power. I definitely want an inverter, don't want to be running the generator all the time for 120V when off of shore power...

My boat "leaks" current in new marina… yikes

Thanks all… great input. Learned (i.e. paid dearly) my lesson about a certified electrician versus the self-proclaimed "expert electrician". I feel more comfortable now proceeding with the transformer, AND identifying my ground-neutral problem.

My boat "leaks" current in new marina… yikes

Most here are probably aware of the 2017 National Electric Code requirements for new marinas to set a threshold for electrical current leakage to 30 mA at the pedestals. Our (new to us) boat trips our new marina in New Orleans. I've had an electrician work for a week to isolate our problem...

First Trawler - Marine Trader 50

Hi all, We are a first time trawler owner, having sailed/cruised for many years. We are very happy with our new boat, and are in a crash course to learn to maintain, manage, and cruise our vessel. Our plan is to start cruising the Caribbean and later, the Loop. Our 1984 walk-around MT LRC...
