    Alternative to varnish

Varnish Alternative X2 on the Semco sealer (natural)—has the appearance of fresh cut teak. The product is highly viscous—applies like water. Exterior varnish maintenance is a prison sentence with no parole unless hired out annually—but it did look great for a brief period after completion...

    Foiling power boats

Correct. The 46 is foil assisted and the wings span the hulls. My experience with catamarans is limited to only this powercat and I acquired after the prior owner spent untold $$$ to commission the design, manufacturing and install. I am thankful for the prior investment because I benefit...

    Foiling power boats

We have the hysucat foils (designed by Hoppe) on a 46 powercat that do not protrude below the hull bottom—beefy reverse stainless chevron midship and an adjustable stainless foil aft that compensates for longitudinal center of gravity. The adjustment is really a set it and forget it ordeal...

Zincs get stuck in the coolers

This is (was) an unfortunately common event with a yanmar engine we have in our runabout—once lodged it is very difficult to disassemble to retrieve. But they should be taken out because they have the potential to cause blockages if they start to swim in your system. Here is the irony of why i...

    Drone Recommendations

I believe the regulations you cite are correct as noted—and licensing is fully dependent the weight of the drone (greater / less than 250 grams) not its capability. The 250 gram or less drones are flown under the FAA ‘Exception for Recreational Flyers’ in the US—for which I own. I am not...

    Drone Recommendations

@rufas I am not interested in a debate but will endeavor to respectfully answer your questions. The boat is seasonally located in a mooring field attached to an owned/permanent mooring—we have 10+ foot tides and marinas are scarce, inconvenient and generally unsuitable for our needs. I do...

    Drone Recommendations

The use-case for many may differ. I use the drone to check on the boat while moored if I get an alarm—it is less than 2 miles from our house and makes for quick piece of mind. Have also found utility while aboard to scout ahead of the boat several miles for anchorages, congestion, etc. I...

    Drone Recommendations

Since you are getting recommendations for used equipment look closely at what features may be available on the model you are considering… the technology and features have really changed in just past couple of years. Whatever you buy it should have onboard GPS, dynamic RTH function and good...

    best on-board cameras ?

By “battery powered”, are your referring to a self-contained battery in the camera or a unit powered by ship battery service? My research has led me to believe the wireless self-contained battery cameras may be impractical for reasons of reliability and safety for my intended use. Your purpose...

    Frameless Windows Help

Ours has radius-corner frameless windows for exterior safety glass. The construction method was to create the exterior side in fiberglass and the interior side to accept the glass in a fitted aperture. Glass is held tight to exterior facing with substantial wood trim pieces in the interior...

    Prep. teak deck for sanding

I have used a multi-tool sanding pad (80-100 grit) to knock down the high caulk areas. Be sure to keep the sanding face flat to the surface to avoid taking off unnecessary teak wood in the process. Keep a shop vac handy to suck up the debris. Good luck.

Your Opinion? - Fuel Polishing or Multi-Stage Racor

If you already have dual racor 1000s, I would simply add a polishing circuit (with a Walbro fuel pump energized as needed that can be t’ed through your existing filtration with return through to a fuel manifold to your tanks. If you only have 2 fuel tanks I would think this can be accomplished...
