    Running light lens replacement

If it did apply every boat with original lights would be considered out of compliance. It's hard to keep track too when they have standards listed in 3 different places. Its long so I didn't paste everything but it is linked. § 25.10-1 Applicability. This subpart applies to vessel...

    Running light lens replacement

I was under the impression pre 1998 was grandfathered with lighting. As long as it meets location, direction, and candelas your fine.

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

Congrats, you must be excited. Seems like really good pricing on the batteries. Is it just a bunch of cells in a box or is it an enclosure more like an electric car battery? There are a bunch of good choices out there now. Having it all from one place would be nice for warranty too. I...

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

I hear 5 knts and wonder how much hydrogeneration I can get on top of it. Besides, if you have a displacement hull you aren't in a hurry anyways, whats another day to get there. I have the other thread on HPR diesel. I think it's going to put a cap on prices as they ramp up. It's already...

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

Have you reached out to wingit yet? I looked at their site but don't think I have space or a secure enough mount for it on the bow. I suspect it's putting a lot of force onto whatever it's hooked to.

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

I'm an engineer. I like projects technology, and efficiency. I suspect if you don't like projects boating could become expensive and tiring very quickly. And yes, Everything I'm looking at is fairly easy to install and remove (battery, motors, inverter, charger). I don't see the Lehman...

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

This is a medium term goal so still tracking the tech more than anything. My 34ft trawler should have a hull speed around 7knts. To get that I need 17.5hp(13kw) of thrust for my 10 tons. If I drop it down to 5knts it should take 7.5hp(5.5kw). That's actually not that hard to get a generator...

    Running light lens replacement

I don't think so. Most of the filaments I've used aren't optically clear enough. The texture isn't great for transmitting light uniformly either.

Check out these guys catalog. JM Reineck & Son Expensive but all I've found so far. The spare parts are listed directly under the listing for the remanufactured lights. If you try them report back on the fit.

Alt fuels and Cost ( BIO or HPR diesel/ ethanol mixes)

I love the idea of unrestricted range so have looked into many if the same things. The kite sail is a great option but I think I lack the front deck space and would have to seriously reinforce things if I did find a spot. The electric drive is a great mature technology now but the batteries...

    California fuel tax refund

Hey all, I'm looking at buying HPR fuel which is currently only available in onroad versions. As such it has the road taxes still included. Has anyone had any experience applying for the fuel tax refund from the state of California? Do you know if it has limitations to who is eligible? I...

    Non-invasive tank monitoring systems

Here's another option for you. Doesn't seem to like metal but hopefully your grey/black waters are plastic or composite. https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?id=6539568

    CHB owner in Socal

Hi, I'm new and wanted to say hi. I'm located out of Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles and have recently( within a year) acquired a 1978 CHB 34. I'm still at the minor repair/ tracing systems stage but have the regular big projects after that. My history, I started boating at 14 when I got an...

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

The POD drive option I looked at. https://www.epropulsion.com/pod-drive/ The option hooked directly into the main driveline. One of many out there now. https://oceanvolt.com/solutions/systems/shaft-drive/

Alt fuels and Cost ( BIO or HPR diesel/ ethanol mixes)

HVO is just the branding near me. Not sure if it's just 1 brands version or national. All the big oil refineries seem to be starting at least pilot programs in the US. SOme are going all in by investing in smaller dedicated companies, likely so they can walk away without taking a big financial...

Alt fuels and Cost ( BIO or HPR diesel/ ethanol mixes)

So I can't quote but someone mentioned until HPR fuel is cheaper they won't try it. IN California Dino diesel is now $7 a gallon and HPR is $6.69. Not enough to switch due to price on its own but getting there. I found a big EU supplier that has a great PDF with more info including a study with...

Electric drive/ Current costs and available tech

This is to discuss electric drive costs. Please avoid referring to policy or moral related discussion. I'll attach an actual charging pic for my car. I'm in California so have higher gas prices than most. It is vastly cheaper. I think the higher up front cost should justify a longer loan term...

    Fuel Shock

I started the drift, sorry thread owner/admins. I'll be opening 2 threads. One in fuel check for alternative diesel/gas and one for cost of electric drive. The electric drive will likely have cost data from cars which is available more readily but I know I watch the data hoping to add an...

    Fuel Shock

Current federal fuel tax is 20c a gallon and 25c a gallon average for state. Assuming 30mpg it's about 1.5c per mile tax. At 10000 miles a year it's $150 total for the average driver in road taxes a year. It would probably be more efficient to apply the taxes to insurance which is already based...

    Fuel Shock

It is supply and demand. I don't believe it stated it wasn't. I thought it was valuable to point to the start and cause of the supply reduction so people can't hijack the current lack of supply to attack recent policy changes. Even in spite of the lack of supply big oil had come right out and...

    Fuel Shock

To be fair, the only reason it was cheap was because the entire economy was shutdown. US oil production tanked in 2019. I remember barrels of oil being at negative prices which means they were literally paying people to take it away. That discourages big oil from reinvesting capital. And...

    Another Teak Deck Post

They have them but I don't think you have enough space between the screw head and the hole. Even if you did it's meant more for a twisting grip to back a screw out. It likely wouldn't grip enough to pull straight out. It's called a spiral stud extractor. Can you get a Jacobs chuck in there? Or...

    Fuel Shock

Ya, It's not biodiesel. I wouldn't use biodiesel because the sources are sketchy and it has gelling and organism issues. Biodiesel is converted using a transesterification process. This is a hydrogenation process. It's a diesel fuel made from chemically converting renewable oils to diesel...

    House battery bank interconnection

Because the wire if large is such a minimal gain compared to the resistance you add with an additional ring connector you would be better off just running one center vertical line. You can alternate which side of center it goes down through. The terminals provide most of your installation...

    Another Teak Deck Post

Do you think the nails backed out or the surface under them is going away? Can you get under the nail head at all when it's in the hole? For removing screws and nails with no heads I always go with the vice grips. They have a huge selection of jaws on them now.
