    Raytheon SL70 Radar Display Problem

Hi Folks, My experience in asking for help on this forum is a great example of the possibilities. Tomas responded and I bought his display. Tomas made sure it was working before shipping it to me. It is now installed on my boat and doing just great. Thank you Tomas and thank you...

    Raytheon SL70 Radar Display Problem

Does anyone have a Raytheon SL70 radar? I need some help. It was working just great for me a year and a half ago, but at that time I was having some major work done on the boat and took it down and stowed it until now. We connected everything together and the display screen is so dim it is...

How to find a good yacht broker

Thanks everyone for your feedback. This has been very interesting and educational. I'm still in the stage of deciding whether I will list it. I'll keep you all posted with what I do. I only received private emails from a few brokers, so that was not so overwhelming. Again, thanks.

How to find a good yacht broker

I am considering listing my boat for sale with a yacht broker. I have sold boats in the past through yacht brokers, but have not been satisfied with their performance. How does one find a good yacht broker? I know that part of the answer is to get references from other people, but it's not like...

    Surveyor needed SW Florida

I bought my boat three years ago in Punta Gorda and had a hull surveyor and diesel surveyor. They are: Steve Berlin, Independent Marine Surveyors Inc Fort Meyers 239-466-4544 Daniel Mattos, Marine Engine Surveyor Inc Fort Meyers 239-461-0366 I was very satisfied with their work and they...

    Californian 34 LRC Trim Tabs

Eck, With the correct props, you should be able to get 2800 rpms at WOT. It sounds like your not able to get out of the hole to get up on plane. I was very happy with my configuration cruising at 14-15 knots at 2400 rpm and I did not have trim tabs, although I'm sure they would help. You may...

    Californian 34 LRC Trim Tabs

I forgot to tell you that I did not have trim tabs. I made a mistake in the previous message, I checked the survey and the speed at full throttle was around 17 knots.

    Californian 34 LRC Trim Tabs

I had a 1983 34' Californian LRC with twin CAT 3208's, 210 hp each engine. It had 23x20, 3 bladed, no cup props. I cruised at 14-15 knots at around 2400 rpm and around 19 knots at full throttle (around 2750 rpm). Sounds to me like you need to get new props.

    i need help

I had new twin Yanmars 315 hp installed some years ago in a boat I owned. Yanmar had a lot to say about what kind of props I was to use to get optimal performance, which were four-bladed props. I would suggest getting the serial number of your engine and contacting Yanmar in the USA and see...

    trawler for sport fishing

Larry, my mistake, for some reason I thought you were in SE Florida until I checked out your profile. You're in the reals tropics compared to the sub-tropics where I am. Karl

    trawler for sport fishing

Larry, Thanks for helping out a fellow Floridian. Wet socks, ahi, cabazon...never heard of them. I had no idea we were still talking about fishing. Now, catchiing King Mackeral, Wahoo, Grouper, Yellow Tail Snapper (yum), Dolphin (ok, Mahi-Mahi), now that's fishin'. By the way, the picture...

The trip from Stuart, FL toward St. Marks, Fl

John, I've been there, I feel your pain. Kinda makes ya glad you've got twin engines though. I'm sure you'll figure out what's going on and be on your way again. Karl

    trawler for sport fishing

No, on a CPMY the cockpit is referred to as the cockpit. The aft deck is the raised deck over the aft stateroom or also called the sundeck. A trawler that only has an aft deck, does not have a cockpit. Some may disagree with my definition, but this is what I've come to understand over time. I...

    trawler for sport fishing

Mikesacs, I too was looking for a trawler fisherman for a long time and found, what has been perfect for me, the 43' Californian cockpit motor yacht. I have a 5' long spacious cockpit on the stern from which I fish, but all the amenities and features of a tralwer, including longer range...

    Just a thought

Knotheadcharters, Passagemaker magazine was just that for the years it was published by founder Bill Parlatore, but once bought up by the conglomorate, it changed into just another yachting magazine catering to the advertisers, but I guess that's the way of the business world. I used to...

    38 Californian AFt Cabin - 1983 or 84

Hi Artie, I own a 1985 43' CPMY Californian which, is the same as the 38' with a 5' cockpit on the stern. I looked at a number of 43's and the common problem was condition of the 400 gallon fuel tank. It sits under the queen bed in the aft stateroom. Definitely have it inspected because if it...

    Marine Fire Equipment

I probably took "license" with using the word "license". In my quest to find someone qualified to do this kind of inspection, I'm looking for someone who is licensed, whether that credential exists or not, in that field. Sorry for confusing the discussion. I'm on friendly terms with my marine...

    Marine Fire Equipment

Thanks for all the replies and information. This is really interesting to me because I've thought, for all my boating years, that the engine room fire extinguisher system had to be inspected by some qualified and licensed person, and I've paid some huge fees for getting it done. Years ago, I...

    Marine Fire Equipment

    First boat...too big?

A 30' cruiser is not to big to start with. Many people have started with even bigger first boats. Knowing what you want in a boat is very important. There's a whale of a difference between a 23' pocket cruiser and a 30" cruiser; you can have your enclosed shower in a 30' boat, but not in a 23'...
