Onan 15KW Generator Fuel Filter Housing

Google seems to be on a downward trajectory, so I gave Bing a try and came up with this result. Not sure how legit the company is, but worth checking out if you need the part: https://trupar.com/p/cummins-onan-construction-agricultural-fuel-filter-149-1759

    Portland to Cabo anchorages?

I'll just toss out another book recommendation, if you can get your hands on a copy of the long out of print Charlies Charts - US Pacific Coast it has a lot of good general information on the harbors along the coast. Always keep in mind the book was written 35 years ago, so double check against...

    New Member from PNW

Welcome! I lived in Whatcom County for nearly 20 years with my boat in Squalicum Harbor. I miss those cruising grounds, I'm in Portland now. Looking forward to retirement and bringing my boat up north during the summers, but that's still a few years away...

    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

My point still stands. AP can lead to complacency. People do stupid stuff all the time while on autopilot. You might not be able to fix, but you can’t deny it either.

    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

The flip side of that is AP's can be a safety issue, making it very easy to get complacent on your lookout skills. As so clearly demonstrated here with the appropriately named Nap Tyme:

    42’ Californian LRC mast height

I can confidently now say that my 42' Californian has an 18.5' air draft. The place where I had my boat hauled out has an 18.5' clearance on their door, and we slid under with barely an inch to spare. Since we had 2' removed previously, I'd guess that a non-modified boat has about a 20.5' air...

Excellent video, thanks for sharing that.

    42’ Californian LRC mast height

Yeah, the top 2’ of mine had been lopped off to allow the boat to fit in its boathouse without having to lower it. My best estimate is that I’m ~17’, but looking for some confirmation.

Does anyone happen to know the air draft for the 42’ LRC?

How to prove a Californian was built in the US?

This might be a long shot, but you could try reaching out to Ken Stanley at Sundance Yacht Sales in Portland. He used to be a dealer for Californian and I think he still has connections to the Marshall family. His number is 503-970-7250.

    Goodbye Sea Magazine

Sea Magazine fueled much of my boat obsession as a child in the 70's. I've been an on again off again subscriber for years. Very sorry to see it go.

    Should I fear steel tanks?

My previous boat had 50 year old steel tanks, no issues at all with them.

I’ve seen your pictures in the Facebook groups, beautiful boat. I don’t know who the previous owner would have been... I left after high school in the ‘80’s.

Portland OR to San Fran bay area

I grew up in Garibaldi. I would not cross Tillamook Bay bar unless you have good reason to stop or have local knowledge. I have childhood friends who have lost their lives on that bar. Someone else mentioned WRI for weather service. I very highly recommend them, I work for a tugboat company and...

    first time in fog

Lots of great advice here, the one thing I would add is to be cautious in following the chart in a place like the Swinomish Channel. Radar and depth sounder would be my focus, verifying what you see there against your chart plotter and AIS. The most important thing though is slow down. That...

    Wi-Fi-Access?

I've used a Ubiquity Bullet for the last two years with good results. Also, you don't need Xfinity/Comcast home service in order to use Xfinity Wifi, they will sell you access by the hour/day/week/month. You can even get two one hour free passes per month...

Autopilot for PNW usage, really needed or not

I must be in the minority here, but I love hand steering. It's too easy to get complacent on auto-pilot, and for me the real joy in boating is the driving. Why turn that over to a machine? That said, it does have its place and it's a useful tool if you have it.
