    Ducks on Swim Platform

We have recently had great success, first with swallows/swifts (?} perching on a lifeline; and, this week, with a family of Indian Miners (?) on steps leading to our dock. It appears birds get into habits of frequenting particularly suitable places. If you can break that habit, they seem to be...

    Stainless steel ground tackle?

Thanks to all respondents for your useful and informative inputs. Thoughts that remain with me include: no first hand experience of chain failure, either S/S or galvanised, has yet emerged; how many vessels in the general boating community have G4 chain, anyhow; I am, essentially, a fair-weather...

    Stainless steel ground tackle?

My new (to me) Her Shine (Jefferson) 50 is equipped with 60 lb Stainless steel CQR anchor and S/S 3/8” (10mm) chain. I have persuaded myself that it would be good to change the CQR to a rated Super High Holding Power anchor; probably, a Rocna 40 (83 lb). My problem is, should I stick with...

Securing a dinghy at a public wharf

Thanks, guys. I am aware that the risk is relatively low but I'm pretty paranoid about the effect that the theft of my expensive RIB and brand new outboard would have on my insurance premium, so I'm anxious to minimise that possibility. It sounds as though I'm thinking along the right lines...

Securing a dinghy at a public wharf

Does the collective wisdom have any ideas on how best to secure an RIB dinghy, with outboard motor bolted on, when left at a public wharf. My thoughts are that stainless wire is better than chain; that the restraint needs to be portable enough to be carried conveniently in the dinghy; and...
