    What Would You Have Done?

When I had a sailboat with cable controls, I was docking moving slowly forward towards another boat. Getting ready to backdown towards my slip I began to shift into neutral and the shift lever came right off in my hand. I hit the boat in front of me. Anything can happen when least expected.

    Suggestions needed for removal

How about working from the outside and banging it back in then go to the inside and bang it back out. Keep working it in and out in both directions until it loosens enough to pull it out. Lube it real good with grease or WD-40 as well. Just a thought.

    Aging

I will turn 82 in a couple of weeks. As long as the body holds up, and the mind is acute, I have no intention of giving up boating. We liveaboard and boating is not just a lifestyle; it is our "life." I have two friends at the marina that are livingaboard, one is 94 the other will be 95 in a...

What are you using in your AC strainer

I've been using Silk Guard with every strainer cleaning for 4 years. My slip neighbor who turned me on to it has been using it regularly for 15 years and has never needed to Barnacle Buster his A/C system. And his pumps have never needed replacement. He has a 52' Maritimo. My chiller system...

    Not Another USCG Documentation Thread!

I just renewed online and had no difficulty. Multi-year renewal was available online as well. I already had a pay.gov account so maybe that's why. You may need to setup a pay.gov account first.

Heating oil as for boat fuel?

As far as I know, it's illegal to use home heating oil in a diesel boat or car. That's why marine fuel is dyed red. I could be wrong so check it out.

    Shower Sumps

I have had a 36 and a 46 GB, There was no shower sump in either boat. There was a small Rule float activated bilge pump in a small depression in the shower pan itself. When the pump was activated it pumped the shower water directly overboard.

For Sale: Fortress FX 85 Anchor

While learning my new to me boat I discovered a Fortress FX85 anchor in the "bosun's" locker hidden under a pile of old fenders. It was in a damp environment but as best I can tell the anchor is unused. It is rated for boats 59' - 68'. The anchor alone at WM is $1,600 and the Stowaway bag is...

    Does Anyone Use Cockpit Controls?

On my boat the idle rpm drops by 100 rpm when I engage "slow" mode. The concept is that the boat moves without an abrupt motion when gear is engaged for close quarters maneuvering.
