    Fexas MIDNIGHT LACE

I was involved with Tom in the original inception. The original engines were junk. Aligning any model and keeping them aligned was also a bear. They were a bit ahead of their time when cruising boats began to increase their speeds and use core materials to reduce weight. The downsides of the...

    Wooden Boats

These are Rybovich. But Buddy Davis built the strip planked versions of similar sportfishers and were put to the test on a daily diet. Therer is an entire fleet of similar hulls fishing year round along the banks.

    Wooden Boats

This is a 1958 hull, built with frames and solid mahogany. Its still going strong. There is many more on the water that's withstood a lot more than many of the cocktail type cruisers built in the same era.

    Wooden Boats

Be afraid, be very afraid of wooden boats. They have lasted longer and has stood the test of time and the sea than most of the folks on here.

    Goodbye

Heck I don't know which is perceived to be worse, being censored or being ignored. ;) But that rarely if ever bothered me. Either way its just an online forum which is full of opinions anyway. So thankfully for me I can take it or leave it. Life is too short to let time wasting minutes on the...

    Dirty River Ft, Lauderdale

Back when the toilet systems for boats began to be regulated and enforcement of black water bladders, three way valves and holding tanks were being installed in new boats, right off the beaches of North Miami and Ft Laud, there was outflow pipes for sewer from the towns along the reef line...

    Definition of trawler?

You do trawl with your trawl on your trawler. ;) But seriously a full time life on the sea can yield an entirely different perspective when others use the name in vain. This has always been a bega-boo for me. While joining this trawler forum to follow some of the ventures here, I quickly...

    Definition of trawler?

Sorry but its time to add the true meaning of Trawler, which is a noun and trawl as a verb and noun depicting, what a trawler does in the water. I doubt that anyone on here with their plus air conditioned, generator assisted and finely polished chrome and varnished teak does a lot of trawling. ...

Best value in a trailerable trawler

I don't know if you are interested in something thats not a stock type boat. But I have had mine to the borders of Maine and almost to Key West by trailer. I launch it for day trips to Ocracoke and tow it with a half ton truck without a problem. Shoot me a PM if you wish . We are local and it...

50yr old Oday Mariner 2+2 19ft sailboat to mini trawler conversion

I may have missed it, but I would surely use at the minimum 1/2" foam board insulation, especially on the top. This will keep some sweating down to a minimum in temperature changes. Since you speak about framing houses, the blue or pink board works great. Create furring strips around the...

St. Petersburg to Knoxville and back (Nautical Miles On Mariso)

What a pleasure to visit , chat and view the job of transforming the hull into a comfortable and workable cruising hull. That cockpit is a place that I could spend hours if not weeks in just watching life go by without leaving it. ..safe passage on the rest of your trip..

CarDude begins epic broke-boat return to US

Great job, the stars were surely aligned for you both for a successful trip and frankly appears for you to continue to own that boat too.

    Lehr outboards.

I think he may have been referring to the Tohatsu. When the two stroke engines were the norm, the Tohatsu engines were the go to for commercial guys. Sadly the dealers have aged out as with the older style ones. Honda is now producing the newer and larger Tohatsu engines now. I don't know of...

Getting to Green Turtle Cay to check on damaged boat

For sure the longer into the fall and winter season you wait, the more prone to the northeast winds you will encounter. If you are looking for some sort of "insurance" for making the crossing, maybe contact one of the tow boat outlets and see if they are doing any trips across with any of the...

Getting to Green Turtle Cay to check on damaged boat

I read this on another forum. This is especially sad reading about the regional wooden boat building and the regional builder and his boats that will be hard to replace if even possible.

Mixing AGM with Wet Cell, different banks..

I have a similar setup, a pair of AGM house batteries with wet cell engine and electronics battery. My charger charges both so far without any issues with my battery switch in the all position when the boat sits stored on the shed for a period of time.

    Looking for Trailer Trawler

Many sportfishing boats use their four strokes at fishing speeds for long periods of time. But these boats and engines do not cruise to their fishing grounds at this speed. My original point was that trawler speed and rpms are not the primary rpm that's used as with cruising all day for weeks...

    Looking for Trailer Trawler

Well people considering a trawler in most cases expect a maximum of 7 to 10 knots or mph , depending on how you count your speed over ground. And most outboard powered hulls, as in the example of the C Dory does that just above your idle speeds or trolling speeds for most planing hulls. This...

Getting to Green Turtle Cay to check on damaged boat

There was a good show on the Weather Channel tonight called Surviving Dorian. They will run it again Sept. 25 at 8:00 EDT. if anyone is interested in seeing it. A fellow told his story about the storm and the boat that he lost after doing 67,000 miles on it.

    Looking for Trailer Trawler

I would not consider any four stroke outboard powered boat a trawler, a hull that goes displacement speeds for long periods of time. The C Dory or even the Roseborough boats are mostly powered by the four strokes outboards. And overtime the four stroke outboards will not operate in a healthy...

Getting to Green Turtle Cay to check on damaged boat

Pardon me if I sound a bit cold. But it does sound like you are throwing it out for other peoples opinion. But depending on how long you have owned the boat if you main reason for going to an attempt to salvage 5 to 6 grand of stuff, then without having a strong emotional attachment to the boat...

Dorian aims for East Coast of Florida

Well old school was that most all homes along coastal regions exposed on a regular basis by hurricanes did have hurricane shutters or plywood pieces fitted to the window frames ahead of time. And now we have many different options pertaining to electrical power to run basic lighting. We...

Dorian aims for East Coast of Florida

While the media and in particular the main voice for these storms the Weather Channel gets all noisy at a peak level, proper preparation is key if you wish to survive and live for another day n your own. Personally I started prepping a week ago, as this storm developed. Its much easier that...
