LIBRA was built in the Jongert yard in North Holland.

    Broken heart ahead....

You have a good eye LC. Many folks lump this vessel in with standard powercats and that is not remotely appropriate. This is the ocean version of world cruising powercat.

    Broken heart ahead....

Ted, here is another way to look at it: If you live in the western US and you want to cruise to Alaska, LIBRA will do quite nicely, probably on the inside or the outside. If you live anywhere in the world and you want to cruise anywhere in the world, you are going to need DOMINO.

Depth sounder offset. True or depth beneath keel????

Good question Peter and I agree that there may not be one good answer. DOMINO has two transducers, and one is set to depth and one to depth under the keel. I do not find myself with bias toward one or the other but it is nice to have the confirmation of both. I have the one transducer on...

    Broken heart ahead....

Not sad at all, Ted, just a different phase of life upon us at the moment with grandkids popping up. The Mexico commute needs to go for a while. While the punks talk about work- life balance, it is just boat-grandkid balance for us boomers. In terms of preference, that changes depending upon...

    Broken heart ahead....

It is looking like the time has come to consolidate. I will list these two in the coming weeks and keep the one that does not sell first. Here is your chance to strike first blood. I will post the listings in the classified forums when they go up. LIBRA is 54x16 lying PNW DOMINO is 65x24...

I have no idea where the link is but that is almost certainly a Malcom Tennant design.

Mt brother owns a Tomcat in Sequim. Helluva boat. I expect you would like it given what you describe as your goals here.

    8D starting battery replacement

Flashback This is drift but relates to decisions(some not so good) around battery change out. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now consider it proof that I married well. DOMINO was on the hard in the Sea of Cortez for hurricane season when we were notified by the yard that a...

    Interesting boats

Ha! My brother sent me the same listing from Marketplace. I am not shopping but perhaps he is. Archimedes is as beautiful in person as she is here in the photos. She was moored at Elliott Bay for a long time when I was there. She was also listed for sale at that time but for something closer...

    Ayetides App

I use Ayetides, GPSRealtides, and the tide/current tables embedded in Navionics all together in that region. Sometimes, some of them are right in terms of tidal rapids. More agreement means more confidence, but still beware. Ayetides seems as good as any I have used but probably not safe as a...

    Interesting boats

The NED70 is a beauty in both form and function. She was for sale and at the top of my list before I bought DOMINO. I suppose a big part of her charm is the whole length to beam and efficiency thing and she is good in that regard at 4:1. But, in the end, the cat that sits on two hulls that...

    Any good info on Chile?

Well, this is a first world problem for sure. That trip over the Andes that Beth is suggesting is awesome and will be a very nice consolation. After flying into Puerto Montt, I would take the short drive north to Puerto Varas and stay on Lago Llanquihue. Much nicer than Puerto Montt in my...

    Buying boat with Volvo TMD40A's

Here is a different angle: The Volvo discount is already in this boat one would assume, so not sure why focusing on the Volvo discount when you sell in three years makes any sense here. If the mechanical inspection and sea trial is $1200 and reveals no issues, especially in the coolers, it may...

    Anodes crusty - still working?

By way of an update on my long-lived anodes for Steve and any others still tuned in. With mounting paranoia and armed with my trusty reference cell, I spent an hour or two today looking at hull potential in various areas on Libra. Reading ran the range of -950 to -1280 mv on various metal...

    Anodes crusty - still working?

Thanks Steve, In the case of Libra, the shaft log is packed in grease (not oil). There is a grease reservoir, and it has a pump driven by a belt coupled to the main shaft keeping the log full and under positive pressure. We find this auto lube arrangement common in agricultural equipment. It...

    Anodes crusty - still working?

All good stuff. I will definitely do the reference cell again now. I think the last time I checked with a reference cell was 2018 so overdue and will consider the installation of the monitoring station. I am thinking about your encapsulated metals comment. While I do not understand the subject...

    Anodes crusty - still working?

Well, the good news is that there are signs of consumption on the surfaces of the anodes, just very little and very slowly at the rate of around 3+ years to 50%. Probably over zinced. There must be 30# of anodes on the hull from tip to tail, maybe more. But, if they were not working, would...

    Stern anchor

Every boat and every crew will take a different view of this. For me, with winches and wildcats all over the cat, why not use a real anchor for the stern anchor? Otherwise, I would need to stow two anchors, a backup/storm anchor with rigging and a small stern anchor with rigging. I would...

    Anodes crusty - still working?

This question haunts me a bit I must admit. I have due respect for both the post above and the post he quoted. During the last haul for my steel vessel which was more than two years from the previous haul, I did not replace a single anode of likely 20 or more that are deployed on the vessel...

    Stern anchor

Not sure, Jeff, but will try to find a number on it when we get back aboard. It is one of the bigger ones and seems like it might weigh around 45#? I know when it buries itself in that firm sand, it takes a good bit of torque to bust it out, even compared to a much heavier modern bow anchor.
