    Cannot locate leak source......

I assume the leak only occurs when it rains or the boat is washed? Does it drip from ceiling level or from the under deck bulkheads? Maybe post a pic where the drip is coming from and we may be able to give some possibilities

    Paint flaking off Rudder

Thanks for your further help, I have just generalised calling the underwater fittings brass, they well could be bronze or Nicad? I have noticed the zinc bonded transom anode is now not as bright in the consumed area after the fitment of the galvanic isolator abt ten days ago, so this may have...

    Paint flaking off Rudder

Thank you all for your responses, it gives a better insight to the problem. I now have a galvanic isolator fitted to the boat, when tested the marine elec said that it had dropped 10 milliamps, so the current is now a little below average instead of a bit above, the rudder has been repainted so...

    Used Island Gypsy 32

Hi Oceanbound, I am not a IG owner but have had some experience with them With 3000hr and 30 years you would assume some cost in maintenance in the years to come, it is pot luck how much this will be, from just a few bits and pieces to a full rebuild, a good surveyor and oil samples could...

    Windlass Problem

Thanks all for your help, Will probably go for the AGM,s, and if new batteries do not fix the problem with the sonar, will look at a voltage conditioner as it is annoying to lose depth when anchoring. Bruce - Gave the guys at Super start a call, they have a great range of batteries at good...

    Windlass Problem

Hi, thankyou all for your consistent help, I had a look at the batteries the other day and realised the water level were well down in both batteries (would have thought the servicing mechanics would have checked this), more so in the start one(Had to add 3 litres of water to start). After the...

    Windlass Problem

Thanks for your replies, The windlass is on the start battery(I will need to double check this) the boat is new so it should be to attached wiring diagram I notice the ground for the windlass seems to be coming from the house battery, could this be sucking some current from it? Both batteries...

    Windlass Problem

Hi All, My boat originally came with a windlass only operatable with a switch at the windlass. I decided to have a switch fitted at the flybridge, it was connected to the windlass solenoid. When the windlass is used to haul up the anchor under stress, regardless of switch, the depth reading...

    Haul Out

Thanks all for your comments, I have the electrician coming to check the anodes and bonding. I will talk to the the antifouling guys about putting a more harder wearing paint on the metal parts when we plan to antifoul in October. I am fairly sure it has soft antifoul on at the moment. Regards Scott

Thanks for the responses; I have a max power bow thruster, single prop, did not notice any deterioration of the zinc but did not realy look for it - I can see where it is in the owners manual, but will this have any bearing on barnacles growing on the bow truster prop suport? Should I be...

Hi all, Have just hauled out after 12 months, suprisingly not much growth on the bottom, except for some barnacles on the prop shaft strut(see pic) and in the bow thruster tunnel. I have 3 areas zinc anodes, two small ones on the rudder(which were nearly gone) one on the end of the prop(30%...

    Island Gypsy News

Hi John, Unfortunally I cannot answer your question. I do know that until the early 90s in Australia there was no requirement to show the hull number or (VIN) on the transom of the boat, identification was found on the builders plate, in line with earlier timber boats manufactured in Australia...
