Comments from the previous owner,

"I bought this boat 3 years ago and completely refurbished it (I had a sister ship 20 years ago, sold it up in the Seattle area and it is still there and *being used by a knowledgeable owner all the time).
It was left it on the hard for over a year while being rebuilt and launched last year. The boat turns heads wherever it goes and people think it is brand new. Willards are great boats because they are very easy to handle and are very maneuverable because of their large rudder.
Everything functions as new (and most systems upgraded to "better than when new)."

BRAND NEW upholstery throughout the entire vessel with new foam!
Dickenson diesel heater with 12 volt fans to help circulate that warm air through the cabin!
Failed concrete ballasts removed and replaced with custom lead ingots. This was a major undertaking and the results were well worth all the effort.

To my eye it's perhaps the best looking model Willard ever built.

Ahab--- You can always have a boat trucked across. With no flying bridge this boat should not have overpass clearance problems with the mast, etc. removed.

The only bad feature I see is the tempered glass windows. Tempered glass shatters and falls out of the frame, laminated safety glass cracks but stays in the frame unless it's really smashed up. Which is why most boats like GBs, etc. use laminated safety glass, not tempered.
 
Nice boat . If I wanted a nice Willard I don't think I would let the trucking cost get in the way on this one .

Thread creep....I had a marine window "specialist" in giving me a quote to replace a cracked pilothouse window. He kept insisting tempered glass was far superior to laminated. He didn't get the job. See post #8.
 
For any that are considering trucking, there is a custom mount for the mast. It was trucked from California to BC where I purchased it.

If the "specialist" on glass was refering to strength he was very right. Tempered glass is very strong. I threw some pieces down 15' into a steel garbage bin and they (5 or 6 pcs) didn't break.

Thread creep continued...Mr. mm. Indeed, there is absolutely NO question tempered glass is very much stronger than laminated glass BUT, and it's this BUT I'm concerned with. When tempered glass does break, one is left with a gaping hole, potentially the size of the frame opening.
It only takes ONE microscopic flaw (chip, scratch) to severely compromise the structural integrity of a tempered pane, potentially, to the point of self destruction. Ever get a stone chip in your laminated car windshield that caused a star crack? THAT can be repaired. IF your windshield was tempered, it's replacement time-guaranteed. Bitter and sweet,

Well, the boat sold. Went to a couple that is going to enjoy in the San Juans for the summer and then winter in Bellingham. Next summer cruise further north and slowly make it to AK. Going to plan on three summers to really take in the scene.

I have since placed an offer on a faster, trailerable vessel. We are moving to a fast flowing river which prompted the sale of the Willard. Going to moored in the Columbia River near Portland, OR. I am currently going through mechanical and survey on a 2004 RF-246 Rosborough.

I'll let everyone know as things progress.
