Boy, now that'll test an anchor. Not to set off a pitched debate, but what anchor were you using? Or was that a mooring field with mooring balls maybe?

in these conditions while on the vessel does it make sense to have the motor running in forward and ease the pull on the anchor.

I am guessing you were unlucky enough the storm passed just enough west of you the southerly wind had that long fetch for almost 7 miles.

That video is the very reason I look for wave protection more than wind protection. Obviously I want wind protection, but the bouncing with the waves trying to pull the hook out is just miserable.

Agreed. I'd much rather sit at anchor through 40 kts in mostly calm water than 25 kts with a 3 foot chop.

Why isn't the helm locked down? Gotta say, seems like a questionable decision to remain on board during those conditions. Mooring or anchor?

The helm WAS locked down but the forces on it overcame the I was on a mooring. brake.
