Well not 100% accurate, but wanted to get your attention. This should be a fun event either from land or the water. I don't know for sure but I assume it will be just outside the harbor. I plan to watch from my boat. Not sure how that will work as this is a first of a kind, but worth checking out if you are in the area. Local questions or additional info welcome.

I wonder if the 12’s from Newport are headed down? I’ll be working the harbor tomorrow. I’ll take inventory. Lol.

I'm guessing they must be. Two names mentioned are "Lionheart" and "Weatherly". I think there are 2 two others. They should be somewhere on the webpage, admidtedly not a great one for info.

I haven't seen either of them around for quite a while. Maybe someone in your neck of the woods owns them.

Good biography of Ted Turners America's Cup path. 12-meter boats of course. Makes me feel old to see these boats relegated to historical baubles - seem to be replacing J-Boats for antiquities in yacht racing.

Thanks for this. A great story, especially when you know how it will end!

Hope you enjoy. It's kind of mind-blowing when you hear the whole story especially the origin of the winged-keel and everything else that led to the Aussie victory.

Ted Turner, Gary Jobson, and other “old time” 12 meter sailors were in town a few weeks ago. They gathered for a party at the new sailing museum and then went out and sailed courageous. I happened to have this nice lady on the boat with me. She was also in Newport for the party. You could see a lot of memories in her eyes as we passed by some of the 12’s, American Eagle, Tree of Life, and some of the other more prestigious old boats. I had to ask a lot of questions to get her to open up. Salty old gal. We had a nice chat. Made my day.
