When ever I mount a new piece of hardware to my boat. I have taken up the practice of First machining a wood block and Attaching it first to the deck or where ever* using 5200 or just glassing over the block.***I then use *screws attaching the what ever to the boat. *That way there is no penetration of the hull or deck into the core.* I have found that where ever there is a screw. Given time, that is where it will leak.
*If you take care and time you can make it look like it was invented that way.
Tracing a leak is a leson in frustration.
I had a leak that started in the bow and came out in the aft cabin.
Any hole in the boat *top or botton is a bad thing.
IMHO
