It seems many of our trawlers were designed when the cocktail hour with mixed drinks was maybe more common than now? And the tradition just continued?

I keep looking at my wet bar with its liquor bottle holder, sink, glass storage, ice maker and think how unimportant that space is to me. Mostly since I have a large fridge with an ice maker in it, and can store alcohol etc in kitchen areas.

That's pretty premium space dedicated to the cocktail hour!

Does everyone fully utilize theirs, if you have one?

We had a small cabinet that housed controls for the ancient Vosper stabilizers. When the Vospers were replaced with electronic controlled Wesmars, the cabinet became free space. We decided to splurge a bit with a mini-bar. When we have mixed drinks, she drinks vodka, I drink rum. And a place to store nicer glasses.

Icemaker is outside my energy budget even if I had the space for one.

Different lattitudes often make for different drinks.

We use our wet bar all the time for margaritas and I have always used the icemaker for ice to keep fish cold

Our little vessel came with an Edgestar ice maker/freezer. It will be removed shortly and the new water heater is going in its place

We have a wet bar on deck with an ice maker, storage cabinet, and sink. There's not really any better spot for the ice maker, so having it there is reasonable. The cabinet came with a removable insert for holding wine or liquor bottles, but it's perfectly serviceable for general on-deck storage (which is how we use it, alcohol is stored in the galley). And having a sink on deck comes in handy sometimes for a quick hand rinse before returning to the helm if I get grime on my hands while anchoring, for example.
