I thought it would be interesting to see the progression from youth to... lets call it Knowledge in the boats people have owned.

My first boat of my own was a 1968 Starfire 18' flat bottom jet boat. This is the boat that scared the heck out of the wife, powered by a 383 chevy and a Berkley pump it would do a solid 50mph. What scared her was we took it from Washington Park to Friday Harbor..

1986 26' Searay Weekender 350/I/o We really had a good time on this one, trailered it all over Washington/Oregon/Idaho.

We always look at whats on the water and what could/would be our next boat. I love the DeFever/Grand Banks Europa, Wife likes the Grand Banks East Bay's

My first boat was a late 50's Lyman lapstrake runabout with an 18-horse Evinrude.
I got that from my boss at my first real job the summer I turned 16.
It was pure freedom running as many miles up and down the Fox River as I could go.

In my late 20's I bought a Catalina 30, lived aboard and ended up sailing to Hawaii.

In my late 40's I bought a 52' Rhodes motorsailer that we sailed around for 15 years.
I still have the tender from that one, an 11-foot Boston Whaler with an 18-horse again.

As I near retirement, I'm looking for 46-55 foot trawler to grow old with.

14' wood Blue Jay open cockpit sailboat on the CT River and Long Island Sound. To this day probably the most fun I ever had on a boat.

Carver 3207. Good boat.

Mainship 37 "Motoryacht." Very comfortable and we enjoy it, but I do still miss that Blue Jay once in a while.

Great boats, with very few issues, at a great value.

Being from the PNW the Bayliners are very popular around here. We took a tour on a neighbors 4750? and I was very impressed with the layout and use of space. Engine room was easy to access (vs our boat). I could see us heading that way one day.

The 4788 Bayliner is a fantastic platform. Having owned one for 9 years now and being a pretty critical guy by nature I find very little to fault with the design of this boat.

All boats are a compromise of how to use the available cubic feet. All boats represent the thousands of engineering level decisions made in the design. All boats represent the material choices made in their construction.

Again, Very little to fault in this Made In America by your neighbors in Washington product.

The Bayliner 4788 was the second model completely designed with CAD. (I believe the 4588 was the first!) I could be wrong but I distinctly remember reading that in a nautical publication. I've never owned one but my buddy did (47880 and I found it to be a great boat.

I noticed that as well, looks like most started on small sail boats, then worked up a bit in size, and at some point when back down in size. I wonder what the choice of downsizing is based on? Age? Income? Practicality of use? Settled down with a long term wife, and no more playboy ways?

I'm shocked at the number of boats that many of you crazy boaters have owned! I've boated all of my life and only owned 3 boats.

1) 1985 Skipjack 25 cabin cruiser
2) 2013 Carver C34 Cabin Cruiser (now renamed C36)
3) 2017 North Pacific 45 Trawler

Now that I'm 63 this may be my last boat. lol, but I would like to own a full displacement trawler with a walk-in engine room some day.
