I was browsing through a second hand book shop when I came across a book about the Vietnam war called 'A Bright Shining Lie'by Neil Sheehan which won the Pulitzer prize for non fiction.

A monster of a book coming in at 800 odd pages, it is the story of the Vietnam war from the late 1950's to the early 1970's told through the protagonist John Vann, a deeply gifted and flawed individual.

It is a superb book, if you want to know what happened in the Vietnam war and why, this is the book.

And if one wants to know what it was like to BE in the Vietnam War, the book "Matterhorn" is pretty amazing. It's a novel but the author based the book on his own experiences.

Been there, done it....but the t-shirt wore out a long time ago!:D

At 19 I was PO'd that I had just missed it; in boot camp during the evacuation. At 56 I'm a little bit less stupid and realize how lucky I am.
